Έργο του Μιχάλη Κακογιάννη είναι και ο νυχτερινός φωτισμός των μνημείων της Ακροπόλεως Σε ηλικία 89 ετών ο σπουδαίος σκηνοθέτης Μιχάλης Κακογιάννης έφυγε από τη ζωή. Πριν από λίγες ημέρες είχε εισαχθεί για νοσηλεία στο νοσοκομείο «Ευαγγελισμός» με αναπνευστικά και καρδιολογικά προβλήματα.
Ο Μιχάλης Κακογιάννης, γιος της Αγγελικής και του Παναγιώτη Κακογιάννη, γεννήθηκε στη Λεμεσό της Κύπρου, στις 11 Ιουνίου του 1922, και σπούδασε Νομική, Δραματικές Τέχνες και σκηνοθεσία στο Λονδίνο. Σχεδόν ολόκληρο το διάστημα που βρισκόταν στο Λονδίνο, εργάστηκε στην ελληνική υπηρεσία του BBC, στην αρχή ως μεταφραστής και εκφωνητής, και αργότερα, σε ηλικία μόλις 22 χρόνων, ανέλαβε τη διεύθυνση της «Κυπριακής Ώρας».
Σύμφωνα με το βιογραφικό του, όπως έχει αναρτηθεί στην ιστοσελίδα του «Ιδρύματος Κακογιάνη», το 1947 ξεκίνησε την καριέρα του στο Θέατρο της Αγγλίας ως ηθοποιός, γρήγορα όμως τον κέρδισε η σκηνοθεσία και το 1953 ήρθε στην Ελλάδα. Στα χέρια της αστυνομίας έπεσαν δύο αλλοδαποί ηλικίας 20 και 21 ετών, οι οποίοι, σύμφωνα με την αστυνομία, είχαν δολοφονήσει στις 26 Ιουνίου στο σπίτι τους στην Βέροια έναν 73χρονο και την 69χρονη σύζυγό του για να τους ληστέψουν.

Από τα στοιχεία που έχουν γίνει γνωστά για τη δολοφονία προκύπτει πως οι δράστες εισέβαλαν στο σπίτι του ζευγαριού, τους ξύπνησαν και τους ζήτησαν χρήματα και κοσμήματα. Στη συνέχεια τους έδεσαν, τους φίμωσαν κι άρχισαν να ψάχνουν το σπίτι.

Από τις αρχές του έτους έως σήμερα εκτιμάται πως έχουν φύγει στο εξωτερικό καταθέσεις ύψους 18 δισ. ευρώ, ενώ από τις αρχές του 2010 οι εκροές καταθέσεων φτάνουν τα 47 δισ. ευρώ, στερώντας πολύτιμη ρευστότητα από το ελληνικό τραπεζικό σύστημα.

Ετσι, η δεξαμενή των καταθέσεων επιχειρήσεων και νοικοκυριών στις ελληνικές τράπεζες που έφτανε τα 237,341 δισ. ευρώ στα τέλη του 2009, σύμφωνα με στοιχεία της Τραπέζης της Ελλάδος περιορίστηκε στα 191,814 δισ. ευρώ στα τέλη Μαΐου, οπότε και τα τελευταία διαθέσιμα στοιχεία. Μάλιστα, τις τελευταίες εβδομάδες, παραμονές της κρίσιμης Συνόδου Κορυφής, σημειώθηκαν και νέα κρούσματα απόσυρσης καταθέσεων, ευτυχώς χωρίς να κυριαρχήσουν στοιχεία πανικού.

Φέρτε πίσω τα λεφτά . «Να έρθουν εδώ τα χρήματα, είναι μια ευκαιρία τώρα», προέτρεψε ο κ. Βενιζέλος σημειώνοντας ότι οι ελληνικές τράπεζες πλέον είναι από τις ασφαλέστερες της Ευρώπης. Από την πλευρά του ο αναπληρωτής υπουργός Οικονομικών Π. Οικονόμου είπε ότι το μη δηλωθέν εισόδημα από τόκους μπορεί να υποβληθεί σε συμπληρωματική δήλωση, χωρίς να υπάρχει ο φόβος της επιβολής προστίμου.

Εν τω μεταξύ η Γενική Γραμματεία Πληροφοριακών Συστημάτων έχει ήδη εντοπίσει 72.000 καταθέτες σε 42 χώρες του εξωτερικού.

Ταξί: Συγκέντρωση έξω από τη Βουλή την Τρίτη

Την πραγματοποίηση μεγάλης συγκέντρωσης έξω από τη Βουλή την Τρίτη, ενώ θα συνεδριάζει ο Τομέας Μεταφορών του ΠΑΣΟΚ, αποφάσισαν οι ιδιοκτήτες ταξί.
Στο μεταξύ, σε συνέντευξή του σε κυριακάτικη εφημερίδα ο υπουργός Διοικητικής Μεταρρύθμισης και Ηλεκτρονικής Διακυβέρνησης Δημήτρης Ρέππας. προτρέπει τους ιδιοκτήτες ταξί να μην κάνουν στους άλλους ό,τι δεν ήθελαν για τους ίδιους.
«Δεν μπορεί να κάνεις σε κάποιον αυτό που δεν θέλεις να υφίστασαι εσύ. Οι άνθρωποι των ταξί δείχνουν αδυναμία και όχι δύναμη, όπως ίσως νομίζουν, όταν δρουν στο όνομα του κλάδου και όχι στο όνομα του συμφέροντος της χώρας, όπως κάνει η κυβέρνηση. Συμβάλλουν στην εθνική καταστροφή, θεωρώντας ότι προωθούν τη δική τους σωτηρία», αναφέρει ο κ. Ρέππας.
Την Κυριακή οι ιδιοκτήτες των ταξί προχώρησαν σε μία συμβολική διαμαρτυρία στο λόφο της Ακρόπολης, καταλαμβάνοντας τα εκδοτήρια και επιτρέποντας την ελεύθερη είσοδο των επισκεπτών.

Ανοιχτό το ενδεχόμενο να προσφύγουν στα δικαστήρια οι πρυτάνεις

Μαραθώνιες συζητήσεις είχαν οι πρυτάνεις, οι οποίοι συνεδρίασαν εκτάκτως το απόγευμα της Κυριακής για τις διατάξεις του νομοσχεδίου, που κατέθεσε στη Βουλή η υπουργός Παιδείας, Άννα Διαμαντοπούλου.Σύμφωνα με όσα είπαν οι πρυτάνεις στους δημοσιογράφους, συζητήθηκαν διατάξεις του νομοσχεδίου που «οδηγούν στη διάλυση των σπουδών και σε υποβαθμισμένα πτυχία». Ως παράδειγμα ανέφεραν την καθιέρωση της σχολής ως ακαδημαϊκής μονάδας και την μετατροπή των τμημάτων σε ομάδες διδασκόντων γνωστικών αντικειμένων, κάτι που , όπως τόνισαν, δεν μπορεί να λειτουργήσει στην πράξη. Ανέφεραν ότι οι ρυθμίσεις περί συγγραμμάτων, που θα περάσουν όλα στο διαδίκτυο, μετακυλίουν το κόστος από το κράτος στην ελληνική οικογένεια και τον φοιτητή. Επίσης, για τη δημιουργία ταχύρρυθμων σπουδών τριετίας, φαίνεται τώρα από το τελικό σχέδιο ότι δεν είναι απαραίτητο να συμφωνούν τα ιδρύματα για να τις δημιουργήσουν, αλλά το θέμα αυτό βρίσκεται στη διάθεση του εκάστοτε υπουργού.
Υποστήριξαν ακόμη ότι «το νομοσχέδιο βρίθει αντισυνταγματικών διατάξεων» και γι αυτό τον λόγο είπαν πως έχουν στο πλευρό τους ομάδα συνταγματολόγων, που έχει μελετήσει τις διατάξεις και έχει αποφανθεί περί αντισυνταγματικότητας ορισμένων εξ αυτών.
Ειδικά για το θέμα των αντιδράσεών τους, οι πρυτάνεις αφήνουν ανοιχτό το ενδεχόμενο να προσφύγουν στα δικαστήρια για την ακύρωση διατάξεων, αμέσως μετά την ψήφιση του νομοσχεδίου. Ωστόσο, τονίζουν ιδιαίτερα ότι η εφαρμογή των διατάξεων στην πράξη δεν είναι ούτε εύκολη ούτε απλή. Ορισμένοι απ΄αυτούς δεν διστάζουν, πάντως, να πουν ότι ορισμένες διατάξεις είναι ανεφάρμοστες.
Πάντως, όλοι αναμένουν ότι τον Σεπτέμβριο, που θα επιστρέψουν οι φοιτητές στα Ιδρύματα, δεν θα αποφευχθούν κινητοποιήσεις. Λεπτομέρειες για τις θέσεις τους, αλλά και για τη στάση που θα κρατήσουν, όπως είπαν, θα δοθούν σε συνέντευξη Τύπου, που έχουν προγραμματίσει να δώσουν στο Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών σήμερα το πρωί.

Νέοι επαχθείς όροι δανεισμού...

Αντιμέτωπη με τον πέμπτο έλεγχο της τρόικας και την υπογραφή της νέας δανειστικής σύμβασης, που ουσιαστικά αφορά νέο δάνειο μόλις 36 δισ. ευρώ, βρίσκεται η κυβέρνηση.

Η κρισιμότερη σύνοδος κορυφής της περασμένης εβδομάδας απομάκρυνε την ολική χρεοκοπία της χώρας, αλλά φέρνει νέους επαχθείς όρους δανεισμού, καθώς η τρόικα δεν φαίνεται διατεθειμένη αυτή τη φορά:

1Να παρακάμψει το επίμαχο ζήτημα των «εγγυήσεων». Η ελληνική κυβέρνηση μπορεί να έφερε στη Βουλή (Ιούνιος 2010) την κύρωση της πρώτης δανειστικής σύμβασης, αλλά τελικά δεν την ψήφισε. Η πρώτη σύμβαση ανέφερε με τον πλέον σαφή τρόπο τα περί υποθηκών, ενέχυρων ή άλλων βαρών, εφόσον αθετήσει τις υποχρεώσεις του ο δανειζόμενος. Οσα απέφυγε πέρυσι η κυβέρνηση τα έχει τώρα μπροστά της, καθώς οι δανειστές έχουν ήδη θέσει ζήτημα εγγυήσεων.
2 Να αποδεχθεί τις καθυστερήσεις και τις ολιγωρίες στην εφαρμογή των μέτρων που έχουν ήδη ψηφιστεί με το Μεσοπρόθεσμο Πλαίσιο Δημοσιονομικής Στρατηγικής. Για το λόγο αυτό και καταφτάνει στην Αθήνα πανστρατιά ελεγκτών της τρόικας, που θα παρακολουθεί βήμα βήμα κάθε μέτρο, προκειμένου να προχωρήσει άμεσα στη λήψη πρόσθετων μέτρων όταν κρίνεται ότι τα αρχικά δεν προχωρούν, λόγω καθυστερήσεων ή περιορισμένης απόδοσης.
36 δισ. το δάνειο
Η νέα δανειστική σύμβαση, την οποία συντάσσουν οι εμπειρογνώμονες της Ευρωπαϊκής Ενωσης, αφορά στην ουσία ένα πρόσθετο ποσό δανείου μόλις 36 δισ. ευρώ, καθώς στα 109 δισ. ευρώ της συμφωνίας της περασμένης Πέμπτης έχουν συμπεριληφθεί τα υπόλοιπα 45 δισ. ευρώ του περσινού πρώτου δανείου (σ.σ. μέχρι στιγμής έχουν εισπραχθεί τα 65 δισ. ευρώ) και 28 δισ. ευρώ από τις ιδιωτικοποιήσεις. Τα τελευταία θα μετατραπούν σε δάνειο μόνο στην περίπτωση που η Ελλάδα δεν θα καταφέρει να πετύχει τους στόχους είσπραξης εσόδων από την πώληση της δημόσιας περιουσίας.
Η πρώτη δόση της νέας δανειστικής σύμβασης θα εισπραχθεί τον Σεπτέμβριο κι όπως είπε ο υπουργός Οικονομικών την περασμένη Παρασκευή, θα προέρχεται από τα υπόλοιπα του περσινού δανείου.
Οι όροι του νέου δανείου θα αποτελέσουν και αντικείμενο της συνάντησης του Ευάγγελου Βενιζέλου με τη γενική διευθύντρια του ΔΝΤ, Κριστίν Λαγκάρντ. Στην Ουάσιγκτον, όπου έφτασε χθες το βράδυ, ο κ. Βενιζέλος συναντάται σήμερα με τον υπουργό Οικονομικών των ΗΠΑ Τίμοθι Γκάιντνερ, τον διευθύνοντα σύμβουλο του IIF Τσαρλς Νταλάρα και τον πρόεδρο της Επιτροπής Εξωτερικών Υποθέσεων της Γερουσίας Τζον Κέρι, ενώ θα μιλήσει στο Peterson Institute for International Economics, με θέμα: «Ελληνική κρίση: προκλήσεις και ευκαιρίες».
Τις προσεχείς ημέρες φτάνουν στην Αθήνα και τα τεχνικά κλιμάκια της τρόικας, για τη συλλογή των στοιχείων σχετικά με την πορεία της οικονομίας. Στις εκθέσεις τους βασίζονται κάθε φορά οι επικεφαλής της τρόικας, που αναμένεται να πιάσουν δουλειά στις 16 Αυγούστου.
Τα 10 μέτρα
Στο επίκεντρο, εκτός από τα δημοσιονομικά μεγέθη και τα μέτρα που τα συνοδεύουν, όπως οι αυξήσεις φόρων με έμφαση στο σχέδιο πάταξης της φοροδιαφυγής και στην επικείμενη φορολογική μεταρρύθμιση του Σεπτεμβρίου, βρίσκονται και «10» κρίσιμα διαρθρωτικά μέτρα που αφορούν σε:
* ασφαλιστική μεταρρύθμιση με έμφαση στη μείωση των Ταμείων (πρόνοιας και επικουρικά) που δεν κρίνονται βιώσιμα,
* υγειονομική περίθαλψη (όπως συγχωνεύσεις ή καταργήσεις νοσοκομείων),
* διαχείριση περιουσιακών στοιχείων (επέκταση της σύμβασης του «Ελ. Βενιζέλος» και πώληση του Καζίνου Πάρνηθας είναι τα πρώτα που αναμένουν βάσει του τέταρτου επικαιροποιημένου Μνημονίου),
* εκσυγχρονισμό δημόσιας διοίκησης (υιοθέτηση νομοθεσίας περί απλοποιημένου συστήματος αμοιβών μέσω Ενιαίου Μισθολογίου),
* εκπαιδευτικό σύστημα,
* αγορά εργασίας (ενδυνάμωση Επιθεώρησης Εργασίας),
* βελτίωση επιχειρηματικού περιβάλλοντος και ενίσχυση ανταγωνισμού σε ανοικτές αγορές,
* ρύθμιση και εποπτεία χρηματοπιστωτικού τομέα,
* αύξηση ρυθμού απορρόφησης διαρθρωτικών κονδυλίων,
* μείωση αμυντικών δαπανών. *

Το επιβατικό κοινό που επέλεξε σήμερα τον ΟΣΕ Θεσσαλονίκης για τη μετακίνηση του μάλλον είχε άλλες προσδοκίες από την ποιότητα του... οργανισμού, όταν αντίκρισε πολυάριθμη ουρά ατόμων που περίμενε να εξυπηρετηθεί από ΜΙΑ μόλις υπάλληλο (στην οποία οφείλω συγχαρητήρια)! Από τα οκτώ εκδοτήρια που υπάρχουν εντός του σταθμού, λειτουργούσε το ένα, το οποίο έπρεπε να εξυπηρετήσει τόσο τους πελάτες που τακτοποιούσαν τις αγορές των εισιτηρίων τους για ταξίδια που θα πραγματοποιούνταν άμεσα, όσο και αυτούς που είχαν μεγαλύτερο χρονικό περιθώριο αναμονής για να ταξιδέψουν. Το εξωφρενικό βέβαια είναι πως η εικόνα αυτή δεν είναι αποκλειστικά σημερινή, αλλά σχεδόν καθημερινή, ίσως και χειρότερη, εξαιτίας των μετατάξεων των υπαλλήλων που επέβαλλε η πολιτική περιορισμού των δημοσίων δαπανών. Κατά πόσο είναι όμως ωφέλιμο για την ανάπτυξη του εσωτερικού και εξωτερικού τουρισμού της χώρας η ατέρμονη αναμονή των πελατών σε έναν από τους κεντρικότερους σταθμούς; Πόσο ανταποδοτικό χαρακτήρα έχουν πια στην Ελλάδα οι υπηρεσίες που λαμβάνουμε ως πολίτες?

Συλλυπητήρια επιστολή για τις τρομοκρατικές επιθέσεις στο Όσλο και στο νησί Ουτόγια, απέστειλε ο Παπανδρέου... προς τον Νορβηγό ομόλογό του, Jens Stoltenberg.

Η επιστολή του κ. Παπανδρέου έχει ως εξής:

«Αγαπητέ Πρωθυπουργέ,

Είμαι συγκλονισμένος από τη βομβιστική επίθεση που έπληξε το κέντρο του Όσλο, και τις μαζικές δολοφονίες στο νησί Ουτόγια, που στοίχισαν τις ζωές αθώων και άφησαν πίσω τους πολλούς τραυματίες.

Ήταν ιδιαίτερα τρομακτική η περιγραφή της δολοφονικής επίθεσης εναντίον τόσων πολλών νέων στην κατασκήνωση της Νεολαίας του Εργατικού Κόμματός σας.

Συμμερίζομαι πλήρως τον πόνο του λαού της Νορβηγίας, ο οποίος υπέστη αυτό το βίαιο τρομοκρατικό χτύπημα.

Εκ μέρους του Ελληνικού λαού και της Ελληνικής Κυβέρνησης, εκφράζω την βαθύτατη συμπαράστασή μου.

Καταδικάζω αυτές τις αναμφισβήτητα ειδεχθούς βίας ενέργειες, ανεξάρτητα από την προέλευση ή τα κίνητρά τους. Οι δημοκρατικές μας κοινωνίες και ο πολιτισμός μας, δεν μπορούν να ανέχονται και δεν θα ανεχθούν μεθόδους και ενέργειeς τρόμου και βίας.

Αυτή τη δύσκολη ώρα, θυμόμαστε την αλληλεγγύη που δείξατε σε δύσκολες στιγμές για τον Ελληνικό λαό. Τότε που εμείς στην Ελλάδα αναζητήσαμε καταφύγιο στη Νορβηγία και βρήκαμε τη συμπαράστασή της στη δυνατή φωνή της για Δημοκρατία και Δικαιοσύνη στην πατρίδα μας.

Η Ελλάδα παραμένει προσηλωμένη στην μακρόχρονη φιλία ανάμεσα στους δύο λαούς, καθώς και στον κοινό μας αγώνα κατά των τρομοκρατικών ενεργειών.

Στεκόμαστε στο πλευρό της Νορβηγίας και στο λαό της, αυτές τις δύσκολες στιγμές.

Για μια ακόμα φορά, Κύριε Πρωθυπουργέ, σας παρακαλώ να δεχθείτε τα συλλυπητήριά μου για τα θύματα των επιθέσεων και να μεταβιβάσετε στις οικογένειές τους την ειλικρινή μου συμπαράσταση μου».

Κανένας κίνδυνος δεν υπάρχει από αποθηκευμένα πυρομαχικά των Ενόπλων Δυνάμεων, σε κανένα μέρος της ελληνικής επικράτειας, διαβεβαίωσε...
από το βήμα της Βουλής ο Υπουργός Εθνικής Άμυνας, Πάνος Μπεγλίτης.
Απαντώντας σε επίκαιρη ερώτηση της προέδρου της «Δημοκρατικής Συμμαχίας», Ντόρας Μπακογιάννη και με αφορμή το τραγικό δυστύχημα στην Κύπρο, ο κ. Μπεγλίτης τόνισε ότι η Ελλάδα τηρεί πιστά τα πρότυπα των διεθνών οργανισμών όσον αφορά στα ζητήματα αποθήκευσης, φύλαξης και ασφάλειας των πυρομαχικών, ενώ γίνονται τακτικοί έλεγχοι κάθε εβδομάδα.

«Οι εντολές είναι μόνιμες και ο έλεγχος διαρκής. Μπορώ να σας πω ότι ανά εβδομάδα γίνεται έλεγχος σε όλες τις αποθήκες, σε κάθε γωνιά της γης και σε κάθε περίπτωση δεν υπάρχουν στη χώρα μας πυρομαχικά τα οποία να στοιβάζονται σε κοντέινερς, σε εμπορευματοκιβώτια, κάτω από διαφορετικές κλιματολογικές συνθήκες», τόνισε ο Υπουργός Εθνικής Άμυνας και πρόσθεσε:
«Με την ευκαιρία της επίκαιρης ερώτησης της κυρίας Μπακογιάννη, θέλω να διαβεβαιώσω τις συναδέλφους και τους συναδέλφους και μέσα από τη Βουλή τον Ελληνικό Λαό ότι δεν υπάρχει κανένας κίνδυνος από τα πυρομαχικά των Ενόπλων Δυνάμεων, σε όλη την Ελλάδα. Ακολουθούμε και τηρούμε πιστά όλα τα εθνικά ΝΑΤΟϊκά και διεθνή πρότυπα στα θέματα αποθήκευσης, ασφάλειας και φύλαξης των αποθηκών πυρομαχικών, είτε αφορούν στο Γενικό Επιτελείο Στρατού, είτε στο Γενικό Επιτελείο Ναυτικού και στο Γενικό Επιτελείο Αεροπορίας».
Παράλληλα, κάλεσε όλα τα μέλη του Κοινοβουλίου που έχουν καταθέσει αναφορές και ερωτήσεις να παραμείνουν ψύχραιμοι και να αποσυνδέσουν τη συζήτηση από το περιστατικό στην Κύπρο. Μάλιστα, ο Υπουργός Εθνικής Άμυνας είπε ότι θα είναι παρών στον Κοινοβουλευτικό Έλεγχο και θα απαντήσει σε όλα τα γραπτά και προφορικά ερωτήματα των βουλευτών, καλώντας τους την ίδια στιγμή να μην καλλιεργούν κλίμα φοβίας για λόγους εντυπωσιασμού στις τοπικές κοινωνίες.
Ο κ. Μπεγλίτης ανέφερε, εξάλλου, ότι βρίσκεται σε συνεννόηση με τον συνάδελφό του, υπουργό Προστασίας του Πολίτη, για το χειρισμό της υπόθεσης του πλοίου με σημαία από τις Κομόρες Νήσους, του οποίου το φορτίο πυρομαχικών κατασχέθηκε το 2003 στο λιμάνι του Αστακού και φυλάσσεται σε αποθήκες των Ελληνικών Αμυντικών Συστημάτων (ΕΑΣ) στο Λαύριο, τα Δερβενοχώρια και το Βόλο και, σύμφωνα με απόφαση του Τριμελούς Πλημμελειοδικείου Μεσολογγίου και της Εισαγγελίας Πρωτοδικών, το περιεχόμενο αυτό θα έπρεπε να έχει καταστραφεί.
«Σας διαβεβαιώνω απόλυτα, με την ευθύνη που έχω ως πολιτικός προϊστάμενος των Ενόπλων Δυνάμεων, ότι δεν υπάρχει καμία, μα καμία ανησυχία. Όμως, το θέμα πρέπει να λήξει. Είμαι σε συνεννόηση με το συνάδελφό μου, Υπουργό Προστασίας του Πολίτη, προκειμένου να εφαρμοστεί η σχετική απόφαση του Τριμελούς Πλημμελειοδικείου Μεσολογγίου», είπε ο κ. Μπεγλίτης και πρόσθεσε:
«Σε ό,τι μάς αφορά, το Γενικό Επιτελείο Στρατού παρέλαβε, λόγω τεχνογνωσίας, όπως με ενημερώνουν οι συνεργάτες μου, ένα κομμάτι από αυτά τα πυρομαχικά. Πιο συγκεκριμένα, παρέλαβε 110.000 ηλεκτρικούς πυροκροτητές και 29.500 κοινούς πυροκροτητές, τους οποίους τοποθέτησε κατ’ αρχήν σε μια μονάδα στην περιοχή των Ιωαννίνων και τους κατέστρεψε στο τέλος του 2009. Ένα κομμάτι, δηλαδή, αυτών των πυρομαχικών, λόγω τεχνογνωσίας, το Γενικό Επιτελείο Στρατού το έχει καταστρέψει. Εν πάση περιπτώσει, υπάρχει αυτή η εκκρεμότητα -την οποία και αναγνωρίζουμε- και είμαστε σε συνεννόηση με το Υπουργείο Προστασίας του Πολίτη».
Αναφερόμενος στην Κύπρο και την πρόσφατη επίσημη επίσκεψή του στη Μεγαλόνησο, ο Υπουργός Εθνικής Άμυνας αναγνώρισε πως το δυστύχημα στη Ναυτική Βάση «Ευάγγελος Φλωράκης» είχε τραγικές συνέπειες στον παραγωγικό ιστό και την οικονομία της Κύπρου.
«Θέλουμε να εκφράσουμε, με την ευκαιρία αυτή, εκ μέρους της Κυβέρνησης, τα πιο βαθιά μας συλλυπητήρια, κάτι το οποίο κάναμε από την πρώτη στιγμή και να διαβεβαιώσουμε την Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία και τις αρμόδιες αρχές ότι η Ελλάδα -πιστεύω ότι εκφράζω και όλα τα πολιτικά Κόμματα της χώρας- θα σταθεί δίπλα στο δοκιμαζόμενο κυπριακό Ελληνισμό σε αυτή την πραγματικά ιστορική τραγωδία που βιώνει αυτή την περίοδο.
Η αναζήτηση ευθυνών είναι θέμα εσωτερικό της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας. Εμείς, θα βοηθήσουμε, και ήδη το κάνουμε, με την αποστολή γεννητριών από τη ΔΕΗ, σε συνεργασία με το Υπουργείο Ενέργειας, Εμπορίου και Βιομηχανίας της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας», τόνισε ο κ. Μπεγλίτης.
Σε σχέση με τη Σύμβαση της Οττάβα για την καταστροφή των ναρκών προσωπικού, ο Υπουργός Εθνικής Άμυνας επεσήμανε ότι, με την ανάληψη των καθηκόντων της πολιτικής ηγεσίας του Υπουργείου Εθνικής Άμυνας το 2009, διαπιστώθηκε πως, παρ' ότι η Σύμβαση είχε κυρωθεί από το Κοινοβούλιο το 2002 και συμβατική υποχρέωση της χώρας μας ήταν να ξεκινήσει το έργο της εξουδετέρωσης των ναρκών προσωπικού από το 2004, υπήρξαν τραγικές καθυστερήσεις και αδράνεια στο διάστημα της διακυβέρνησης της Ν.Δ. Με αποτέλεσμα να εκτεθεί διεθνώς η Ελλάδα και να βρεθεί υπόλογη απέναντι στη Διεθνή Κοινότητα για τη μη συμμόρφωσή της με τη Σύμβαση της Οττάβα.
Για το εν λόγω ζήτημα, ο κ. Μπεγλίτης τόνισε ότι το 2008 ανατέθηκε από την τότε πολιτική ηγεσία του Υπουργείου Εθνικής Άμυνας στα ΕΑΣ το έργο της καταστροφής 1.570.000 ναρκών προσωπικού εντός ενός έτους, αλλά η διοίκηση των ΕΑΣ εκχώρησε το έργο στην εταιρεία ΑΚΜΩΝ, η οποία, με τη σειρά της, το εκχώρησε στη βουλγαρική εταιρεία VIDEX, με αποτέλεσμα τα ΕΑΣ να λειτουργήσουν ουσιαστικά ως διαμεσολαβητής.
Με την ανάληψη των καθηκόντων του στο Υπουργείο Εθνικής Άμυνας το 2009, ο κ. Μπεγλίτης ανανέωσε – όπως είπε – τη σύμβαση με τα ΕΑΣ για έξι μήνες, προκειμένου να στηριχθεί η εγχώρια Αμυντική Βιομηχανία. Διαπιστώθηκε, όμως, ότι το Μάρτιο του 2010 είχε εκτελεστεί μόνον το 39% του έργου. Σεβόμενος τη νομιμότητα και τα συμφέροντα του Ελληνικού Δημοσίου, πρόσθεσε, διέκοψε τη σύμβαση:
«Αναλάβαμε τη διακυβέρνηση αρχές Οκτωβρίου του 2009. Το πρώτο αίτημα της τότε διοίκησης, που είχε διοριστεί από την κυβέρνηση της Ν.Δ., ήταν να ανανεωθεί αυτό το χρονικό διάστημα για ένα εξάμηνο, γιατί δεν προλάβαιναν, γιατί είχαν προβλήματα στις σχέσεις με την εταιρεία ΑΚΜΩΝ και με την εταιρεία VIDEX στη Βουλγαρία. Το αίτημα αυτό υποβλήθηκε στις 30 Οκτωβρίου.
Έδωσα τόπο στην οργή και μιλάω πάρα πολύ ειλικρινά. Πέρα από τις συμβατικές υποχρεώσεις, προκειμένου να υποστηρίξω τα Ελληνικά Αμυντικά Συστήματα, υπέγραψα απόφαση που παρέτεινε το χρόνο υλοποίησης των συμβατικών υποχρεώσεων για ακόμα 142 εργάσιμες ημέρες, δηλαδή περίπου έξι μήνες.
Έφθασε ο Μάρτιος του 2010 και δεν είχε γίνει απολύτως τίποτα. Τι είχε καταστραφεί μέχρι τότε; Από τις 1.576.000 νάρκες είχαν καταστραφεί 614.000, δηλαδή ποσοστό 39% από το σύνολο.
Το Μάρτιο του 2010, ως υπεύθυνος Αναπληρωτής Υπουργός Εθνικής Άμυνας, όφειλα, επιτέλους, να σεβαστώ το νόμο. Δηλαδή, με άλλα λόγια, τις συμβατικές υποχρεώσεις. Να δείξω ότι τα Ελληνικά Αμυντικά Συστήματα δεν σέβονται τις συμβατικές τους υποχρεώσεις [...] Αυτές οι καθυστερήσεις, αυτές οι αβελτηρίες, αυτά τα παίγνια που έγιναν στο χώρο των Ελληνικών Αμυντικών Συστημάτων στο παρελθόν, δεν πρόκειται να συνεχιστούν. Σας το λέω ξεκάθαρα. Παρά το γεγονός ότι είναι δημόσια επιχείρηση, θα είμαι πάρα πολύ αυστηρός και στο προσεχές μέλλον, προκειμένου να υλοποιήσω τις συμβατικές της υποχρεώσεις», κατέληξε.
Ο Υπουργός Εθνικής Άμυνας υπογράμμισε ότι έχει ήδη συσταθεί μία διαπραγματευτική ομάδα για την επαναδραστηριοποίηση της σύμβασης με τα ΕΑΣ και η σχετική διαδικασία, μέσα από σκληρές διαπραγματεύσεις προς όφελος του δημοσίου συμφέροντος, εκτιμάται ότι θα έχει ολοκληρωθεί ως το φθινόπωρο. Η δε διαδικασία του αφοπλισμού των ναρκών θα γίνει σε βάθος 18μηνου, για να μπορέσει η Ελλάδα να καταστεί και πάλι αξιόπιστη απέναντι στις υποχρεώσεις της στο πλαίσιο των διεθνών οργανισμών, υπογράμμισε ο κ. Μπεγλίτης.
Σχολιάζοντας, τέλος, τις αναφορές της κυρίας Μπακογιάννη στην ερώτησή της για «απαξίωση της δημόσιας Αμυντικής Βιομηχανίας», ο Υπουργός Εθνικής Άμυνας τόνισε ότι προτεραιότητά του και προτεραιότητα της Κυβέρνησης είναι να καταστούν τα ΕΑΣ και συνολικά η ελληνική Αμυντική Βιομηχανία, είτε δημόσια είτε ιδιωτική, παραγωγική, ισχυρή και ανταγωνιστική και ικανή να αντεπεξέλθει στις στρατηγικές της σχέσεις και να μην καταλήγει ως μεσολαβητής ή να πραγματοποιεί εξυπηρετήσεις σε υποχρεώσεις που έχει αναλάβει.
«Τα Ελληνικά Αμυντικά Συστήματα θα πρέπει να είναι μία παραγωγική αμυντική βιομηχανία είτε του δημοσίου, είτε αύριο του ιδιωτικού τομέα, όπως σωστά, κατά την άποψή μας, έχουμε αποφασίσει ως Κυβέρνηση. Παραγωγική αμυντική βιομηχανία δεν σημαίνει εξυπηρετήσεις σε υπηρεσίες, τις οποίες δεν μπορεί να αναλάβει. [...] Δυστυχώς, τα δομικά διαρθρωτικά παθογενή χαρακτηριστικά της Ελληνικής Αμυντικής Βιομηχανίας του ευρύτερου δημόσιου τομέα μας ταλαιπωρούν μέχρι σήμερα όλους. Και αυτό πρέπει να το δούμε. Δεν μπορεί να σταθεί αμυντική βιομηχανία του ευρύτερου δημόσιου ή του ιδιωτικού τομέα με εσωστρεφή χαρακτηριστικά, χωρίς ισχυρή ανταγωνιστικότητα, χωρίς στρατηγικές εταιρικές σχέσεις και συνεργασίες με μεγάλες εταιρείες του εξωτερικού, είτε της Ευρώπης είτε των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών, είτε άλλων χωρών», κατέληξε ο κ. Μπεγλίτης.

Έδωσε διευκρινίσεις

Ο Ερνέστο Βαλβέρδε έσπευσε να καταστήσει σαφές το τι ακριβώς είπε στην διάρκεια της αναχώρησης του Ολυμπιακού για την Ολλανδία. Ο Βάσκος είπε ύστερα από την προπόνηση των Πειραιωτών πως μεταγραφή θα γίνει μόνο εάν κριθεί αυτό απαραίτητο μετά το πέρας της προετοιμασίας στο Έρμελο.

Σε νέα διευκρινιστική τοποθέτηση για να μην υπάρχουν αμφιβολίες και παρερμηνείς προέβη μετά το τέλος της πρώτης προπόνησης στην Ολλανδία ο Ερνέστο Βαλβέρδε αναφορικά με τις δηλώσεις του στο αεροδρόμιο το πρωί του Σαββάτου.

Αρχικά ο Βάσκος παρουσιάστηκε ευχαριστημένος από την προσπάθεια των παικτών του στην προετοιμασία. Επιπλέον ξεκαθάρισε πως ποτέ δεν τόνισε πως θα πραγματοποιηθούν ακόμα μία ή δύο μεταγραφές. Θεωρώντας πως οι τοποθετήσεις του παρερμηνεύθηκαν διευκρίνισε ότι η μόνη περίπτωση να υπάρξει νέα προσθήκη είναι να διαπιστωθεί τέτοια ανάγκη στο δεύτερο στάδιο της προετοιμασίας στην Ολλανδία.

Παραχαραγμένα χαρτονομίσματα, αξίας άνω του ενός εκατομ. ευρώ, βρέθηκαν σε διαμέρισμα στο Γαλάτσι

Εργαστήριο παραχάραξης χαρτονομισμάτων βρέθηκε χτες στο Γαλάτσι, μετά τη σύλληψη δύο 27χρονων αλλοδαπών από τη Ρουάντα και το Καμερούν. Οι δύο αλλοδαποί συνελήφθησαν από αστυνομικούς της Υποδιεύθυνσης Ασφάλειας Αθηνών και του Τμήματος Ασφάλειας Πατησίων. Βρέθηκαν να κατέχουν ο καθένας από ένα πλαστό χαρτονόμισμα των 50 ευρώ. Ακολούθως, οδήγησαν τους αστυνομικούς σε διαμέρισμα στην περιοχή του Γαλατσίου, το οποίο είχαν μετατρέψει σε εργαστήριο παραχάραξης.

Μέσα στο διαμέρισμα βρέθηκαν και κατασχέθηκαν παραχαραγμένα χαρτονομίσματα των 20, 50, 100, 200 και 500 ευρώ, συνολικής αξίας 1.155.190 ευρώ, καθώς και παραχαραγμένα χαρτονομίσματα των 50 και 100 δολαρίων συνολικής αξίας 40.000 δολαρίων.

Επίσης, βρέθηκαν και κατασχέθηκαν 11 εκτυπωτές με πλήρη εξοπλισμό, πλήθος ισομετρικών χαρτιών τεμαχισμένων σε διαστάσεις χαρτονομισμάτων, οκτώ γυάλινα φιαλίδια με υδατικά διαλύματα και σκόνη, που χρησιμοποιούνται για την επεξεργασία χαρτονομισμάτων, οκτώ λεπίδες και τρία κινητά τηλέφωνα.

Οι συλληφθέντες οδηγούνται σήμερα στον εισαγγελέα, κατηγορούμενοι για «παραχάραξη κατά συναυτουργία και κατά συρροή από άτομα που ενεργούν καθ΄έξη και κατ΄επάγγελμα».

What with one thing and the other (Hello, Dolly! Englert Civic Theatre, Iowa City, Iowa, June 12-14. 'Nuff said.) I haven't had enough time for regular blogging. So I'll just toss a few things that have been on my mind lately at the wall and see what sticks.

If I had to bet on who was going to end up in the finale of American Idol, I would put my money on Adam and Danny, with Adam for the win. But Kris Allen is the one who's album I'd be most likely to buy.

This is a picture of Zeke and Ringo (Matthew Werkmeister and Sam Clark) from the Australian soap Neighbours. I'd say more, but I have to go and find something to soak up the drool on my keyboard. Wish I had a ShamWow! And I wish they'd show this damn show in America.

Ben Adams used to be in a boy band called A1. They never crossed the pond. Lately he has enjoyed a bit of a career revival due to his participation on Celebrity Big Brother. (It's hard for Americans to understand how popular Big Brother is in the UK and other parts of the world. I'm always a bit surprised to learn that it is still being produced in America.) I don't know if Ben has any talent at all, but he is one hot little hink. I could look at him for hours.

And moving on from hinks to twinks, German Gymnast and tiny sex God Fabian Hambüchen has recently been photographed rising from the sea like Aphrodite. Damn! I wish I had me that ShamWow! And a flashlight.

Φτώχειες περνάει η Lindsay Lohan, τον τελευταίο καιρό, αφού όπως είπε ο δικηγόρος της, αδυνατεί να πληρώσει... ψυχολόγο, όπως της επέβαλλε το δικαστήριο.
Η, κατά τ' άλλα συμπαθέστατη, αλλά πολύπαθη ηθοποιός, έχει ένα...κενό στην ασφάλειά της καθώς δεν δουλεύει τον τελευταίο χρόνο και έτσι δεν μπορεί να πληρώσει ψυχολόγο προκειμένου να ακολουθήσει το συμβουλευτικό πρόγραμμα , που απαιτείται μετά τους όρους αποφυλάκισής της.
Απ' την πλευρά της ωστόσο η δικαστής Stephanie Sautner δήλωσε ότι "ίσως γνωρίζει κάποιον που μπορεί να τη βοηθήσει" προειδοποιώντας την Lohan ότι είχε ήδη 21 μέρες που έπρεπε να είχε γραφτεί στο πρόγραμμα.
Επιπλέον η δικαστής δεν παρέλειψε να επιπλήξει την Lohan, καθώς έχει ολοκληρώσει μόλις 33 από τις 480 ώρες κοινωνικής εργασίας, που της έχουν επιβληθεί.Σε περίπτωση που δεν ολοκληρωθούν οι υπόλοιπες μέσα σε διάστημα ενός χρόνου, η γνωστή ηθοποιός θα περάσει το υπόλοιπο της ποινής της πίσω από τα κάγκελα.

Τα τελευταία 10 λεπτά του προγράμματος της πρωινής προπόνησης της ΑΕΚ αφορούσαν το χθεσινό φιλικό τεστ και ο Ανδαλουσιανός τεχνικός μεταμορφώθηκε σε… δάσκαλο για να εξηγήσει (αρχικά στη θεωρία και μετά στην πράξη) τα λάθη στους «κιτρινόμαυρους».

Ο Μανόλο Χιμένεθ σφυρίζει τη λήξη του προγράμματος της πρωινής προπόνησης στον αγωνιστικό χώρο του γηπέδου της ομάδας Μούρα και οι παίκτες της ΑΕΚ ανακουφισμένοι κατευθύνονται για νερό και ασκήσεις αποθεραπείας.

Κι όμως ο Ανδαλουσιανός τεχνικός δεν είχε τελειώσει με τους «κιτρινόμαυρους». Το διαπίστωσε και ο ίδιος όταν πήρε στα χέρια του το ντοσιέ με το πρόγραμμα της προπόνησης. Γι’ αυτό και φώναξε: «Ελάτε εδώ, ελάτε κοντά μου, θέλω να στηθούμε στον αγωνιστικό χώρο όπως παίξαμε στο φιλικό για να σας επισημάνω δυο πράγματα», τόνισε ο 47χρονος προπονητής και ουσιαστικά έκανε ένα ακόμη… φροντιστήριο τακτικής.

Κύριοι αποδέκτες των επισημάνσεων και παρατηρήσεων του Χιμένεθ ήταν οι Κοντοές, Γκέντζογλου, Μπέλεκ και Κλωναρίδης. Επί της ουσίας και αφού πρώτα ο τεχνικός της ΑΕΚ τους ξεκαθάρισε ότι από τη συνολική τους παρουσία στο ματς με την Οντράντσι ήταν ικανοποιημένος, έπειτα τους εξήγησε τα λάθη που διέκρινε και πρέπει να τα διορθώσουν.

«Κοντοέ η μπάλα όταν βρίσκεται στα στόπερ και πολύ περισσότερο στο δεξί στόπερ που είναι ο άμεσος συμπαίκτης σου δεν πρέπει να ανεβαίνει έως τη μεσαία γραμμή γιατί δεν του δίνεις εύκολο στήριγμα να παίξει. Αν ανεβαίνεις εσύ πάνω από τη σέντρα και τα αμυντικά χαφ αλλά και τα στόπερ είναι κλεισμένοι πού θα δώσει την μπάλα; Ποια είναι η επιλογή του εκτός από το να στείλει μακριά με μεγάλη μπαλιά την μπάλα προς τον φορ;», είπε στον Κοντοέ και συνέχισε υπογραμμίζοντας: «Και μη φωνάζεις συνέχεια. Ούρλιαζες χθες: ‘’εεεεεεεε, εδώωωωω, εεεεεεε, Μάκο, Σάββααααα’’, όχι δεν το θέλω αυτό και ελπίζω να μην το ξανακούσω».

Επειτα ο Χιμένεθ στράφηκε στους Γκέντζογλου και Κλωναρίδη για να τους πει: «Δεν πρέπει να επιλέγετε προσπάθειες μεταβίβασης της μπάλας ψηλά και σε 45 μέτρα απόσταση. Θέλω να ψάχνεται τη διαγώνια κάθετη πάσα στα δύο εξτρέμ, ή την κάθετη προς τον επιτελικό μας μέσο, ή τον φορ μας. Αλλά όχι παίρνουμε την μπάλα, δεν έχουμε επιλογή και την σηκώνουμε προς την αντίπαλη εστία μήπως βρούμε τον φορ μας. Δεν είναι επιλογή αυτό παιδιά. Με τέτοια πάσα ποντάρουμε μόνο στο λάθος του αντιπάλου.

Ακόμη και αν δεν έχετε επιλογή διαγώνια στα εξτρέμ, ή κάθετα μπροστά σας στον επιτελικό χαφ, ή στο φορ, επιλέξτε να γυρίσετε την μπάλα σε ένα από τα δύο στόπερ για να αναδιοργανωθούμε να ανοιχτεί ο αντίπαλος και να βρεθούν οι κενοί χώροι», τόνισε ο Χιμένεθ και με τη λήξη του… φροντιστηρίου ρώτησε όλους τους παίκτες αν έχουν κάποια απορία ή αν θέλουν να ρωτήσουν κάτι…

UK Border Agency begins recording gay asylum claims

The government says the UK Border Agency has begun collecting data on the numbers of asylum claims based on sexual orientation.

In March, immigration minister Damian Green said the data was not being collected and cited “disproportionate cost”.

Campaigners for LGBT asylum seekers were angry at the admission and said the coalition government could not keep its promise on protecting those at risk of violence and persecution if it did not record details of cases.

Last July, the Supreme Court ruled that the policy of returning gays and lesbians to dangerous countries under the belief that they could be “discreet” about their sexual orientation must end.

Following this, the Home Office told the UK Border Agency that relevant cases should be “flagged and recorded” to ensure that rules were not being breached and that cases were being monitored.

In a statement given to LGBT Asylum News, a Home Office spokesman said: “The government has made it clear that it is committed to stopping the removal of asylum seekers who have genuinely had to leave particular countries because of their sexual orientation or gender identification.

“From July 1st we have begun to record data on claims brought on the grounds of sexual orientation on our case information database.

Transgender woman shot dead in Washington DC

A transgender woman was shot dead in Washington DC on Wednesday morning.

Police said Lashai McLean, 23, was walking Dix Street in the north-east area with another transgender person when they exchanged words with two men.

Shots were then fired and Ms McLean was hit at least once. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Officers do not yet know if the killing was motivated by transphobia.

Speaking to Associated Press, Ms McLean’s boyfriend Jason Coleman said: “It hurts me terrible. I don’t know what I’m going to do without her.”

TUC attacks equality commission’s opt-out proposals for anti-gay staff

The Trades Union Congress says it is “deeply concerned” at the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s proposals to give homophobic workers the right to avoid serving gay people.

Last week, the commission announced its plans to advise in four religious rights cases due to come before the European Court of Human Rights. One of the cases involves a Christian registrar who refused to conduct civil partnerships. Another concerns the case of a sex counsellor who refused to work with gay couples.

The EHRC said that “compromises” and “reasonable accommodations” could be made for such workers in the same way that disabled people have been given employment rights – such as allowing registrars to swap shifts to avoid coming into contact with civil partnerships.

In a letter to the chair of the EHRC, Trevor Phillips, TUC general secretary Brendan Barber argued that “reasonable adjustments” for disabled people “do not impinge on the rights of others”.

He added: “The attempt to apply this concept in such cases would lead to an employer being expected to accommodate the prejudices of an employee against lesbian, gay or bisexual people if they could argue that their prejudice was based in their religion or belief.

“The law would then have been changed to declare that lesbian, gay or bisexual people were protected against discrimination – except where someone could show that they should be allowed to discriminate because they were prejudiced.”

Mr Barber added that the EHRC’s announcement had generated “alarm and despondency” among gay people and urged the commission to rethink its decision.

The letter was also copied to EHRC commissioner and former Stonewall chief executive Angela Mason. Ms Mason has not yet publicly commented on the EHRC’s proposals.

Earlier today, PinkNews.co.uk contacted the commission with further questions about what the ‘compromises’ could entail and whether the body would support such accommodations for, eg, racist employees.

A spokeswoman said the commission would not comment further.

The Government Equalities Office has also refused to give its views on whether there should be opt-outs for religious workers who refuse to serve gay people.

A spokeswoman said: “The government is considering the applications to the European Court of Justice and will be providing submissions to the court in the autumn.”

Announcing the move earlier this month, EHRC legal director John Wadham said that ‘compromises’ could avoid lengthy and costly court cases and be similar to laws for disabled people.

He said: “The idea of making reasonable adjustments to accommodate a person’s needs has served disability discrimination law well for decades. It seems reasonable that a similar concept could be adopted to allow someone to manifest their religious beliefs.”

Gay rights groups have strongly criticised the proposals. Stonewall said it was “deeply disturbed” by the apparent U-turn, while Peter Tatchell called it “shocking” and “utterly appalling”.

Το σίγουρο είναι οτι η Ελλάδα εξελίσσετε σε ενα παγκόσμιο πειραματόζωο.
Με «επιλεκτική χρεοκοπία» βαθμολογούν οι οίκοι αξιολόγησης τη μακροπρόθεσμη πιστοληπτική ικανότητα μιας χώρας για την οποία εκτιμούν ότι θα προχωρήσει σε αναδιάρθρωση μόνο ενός μέρους του χρέους της και θα εξυπηρετήσει στο ακέραιο το μεγαλύτερο ποσοστό του.

Αν για παράδειγμα η Ελλάδα προχωρήσει σε αλλαγή των όρων εξόφλησης των ομολόγων που λήγουν κατά τη διάρκεια μιας διετίας, τότε μιλούμε για επιλεκτική χρεοκοπία. Με βάση τον ορισμό δεν έχει σημασία αν η αναδιάρθρωση θα γίνει σε εθελοντική βάση ή όχι, καθώς κριτήριο για την αξιολόγηση αποτελεί το ποσοστό των ομολόγων που εκτιμάται ότι θα αναδιαρθρωθούν. Για να αξιολογηθεί μια κατάσταση ως χρεοκοπία θα πρέπει ο οίκος να θεωρεί ότι ο εκδότης δεν θα ικανοποιήσει τις απαιτήσεις των πιστωτών για το μεγαλύτερο μέρος ή για το σύνολο των ομολόγων του που κυκλοφορούν στην αγορά.

2. Πώς επηρεάζονται οι τράπεζες από την επιλεκτική χρεοκοπία;

Για να υπάρξει αυτός ο χαρακτηρισμός θα πρέπει να επέλθει συμφωνία σε επίπεδο ΕΕ για την αναδιάρθρωση του ελληνικού χρέους. Επιπτώσεις για τις τράπεζες θα υπάρξουν τόσο από την αξιολόγηση αυτή καθ΄ εαυτή όσο και από ενδεχόμενες ζημιές λόγω των ομολόγων που έχουν στα χαρτοφυλάκιά τους.

Οσον αφορά τη ρευστότητά τους κρίσιμη θεωρείται η στάση που θα τηρήσει η Ευρωπαϊκή Κεντρική Τράπεζα (ΕΚΤ), η οποία με βάση τους υφιστάμενους κανονισμούς λειτουργίας της δεν δύναται να δέχεται ελληνικούς τίτλους ως εγγύηση για τη χρηματοδότηση των τραπεζών αν όλοι οι οίκοι αξιολόγησης υποβαθμίσουν την Ελλάδα στην κατηγορία της «επιλεκτικής χρεοκοπίας».

Αν η ευρωτράπεζα αλλάξει τους κανονισμούς της δεν θα δημιουργηθούν προβλήματα στον δανεισμό των εγχώριων πιστωτικών ιδρυμάτων. Αν όμως σταματήσει τη χρηματοδότηση θα πρέπει να ενεργοποιηθεί ένας έκτακτος μηχανισμός από την Τράπεζα της Ελλάδος (ΤτΕ), ώστε να ικανοποιηθούν οι ανάγκες των τραπεζών σε ρευστότητα έως ότου υπάρξει αναβάθμιση της βαθμολογίας της χώρας και η Ευρωπαϊκή Κεντρική Τράπεζα κάνει ξανά αποδεκτές τις ελληνικές εγγυήσεις.

Από την άλλη πλευρά, οι επιπτώσεις στην κεφαλαιακή επάρκεια του συστήματος εξαρτώνται από το είδος της αναδιάρθρωσης που θα συμφωνηθεί σε επίπεδο ΕΕ και στην οποία θα συμμετάσχει το εγχώριο τραπεζικό σύστημα. Η λύση που θα προωθηθεί μπορεί να περιλαμβάνει «κούρεμα» ή επιμήκυνση των ομολόγων, ή συνδυασμό των δύο. Οσο πιο υψηλό είναι το ποσοστό ενός πιθανού «κουρέματος» τόσο μεγαλύτερες θα είναι οι ζημιές που θα γράψουν οι τράπεζες. Από την άλλη, η επιμήκυνση από μόνη της δεν δημιουργεί σοβαρά προβλήματα.

3. Πόσο χρονικό διάστημα διαρκεί η επιλεκτική χρεοκοπία;

Η παραμονή της βαθμολογίας μιας χώρας στη βαθμίδα της επιλεκτικής χρεοκοπίας εξαρτάται από τις εκτιμήσεις των οίκων αξιολόγησης για τη δυνατότητά της να εξοφλήσει τα ομόλογα που δεν συμμετείχαν στην αναδιάρθρωση. Οπως έχουν ήδη γνωστοποιήσει οι οίκοι για την περίπτωση της Ελλάδας, αμέσως μετά την εφαρμογή της αλλαγής των όρων εξόφλησης των ομολόγων που λήγουν σε μια συγκεκριμένη χρονική περίοδο, θα επαναξιολογήσουν την πιστοληπτική ικανότητα της χώρας ώστε να εκτιμήσουν τη βιωσιμότητα του υπόλοιπου χρέους. Στην περίπτωση της Ουρουγουάης η επιλεκτική χρεοκοπία διήρκεσε 17 ημέρες, αφού το Δημόσιο της χώρας αναβαθμίστηκε μετά την τακτοποίηση των υποχρεώσεών του έναντι των πιστωτών του, δηλαδή μετά την εφαρμογή της αναδιάρθρωσης.

4. Ενεργοποιούνται τα CDS με την επιλεκτική χρεοκοπία;

Δεν υπάρχει αυτόματη διαδικασία για την ενεργοποίηση των ασφαλίστρων κινδύνου (CDS). Για να καταβληθούν οι αποζημιώσεις θα πρέπει η αναδιάρθρωση που θα γίνει να θεωρηθεί πιστωτικό γεγονός. Απόφαση για αυτό δεν λαμβάνουν οι οίκοι αξιολόγησης, αλλά η Διεθνής Ενωση Ανταλλάξιμων Οικονομικών Προϊόντων και Παραγώγων (Ιnternational Swaps and Derivatives Αssociation, ΙSDΑ), στο διοικητικό συμβούλιο της οποίας συμμετέχουν οι μεγαλύτερες τράπεζες στον κόσμο.

ΟΙ ΑΠΟΤΑΜΙΕΥΣΕΙΣ ΕΙΝΑΙ ΑΣΦΑΛΕΙΣ

Για να χαθούν καταθέσεις θα πρέπει κάποια τράπεζα να καταρρεύσει λόγω των απωλειών που μπορεί να υποστεί από την αναδιάρθρωση των ομολόγων που έχει στην κατοχή της.Σε μια τέτοια περίπτωση ισχύει η εγγύηση των καταθέσεων από το Ταμείο Εγγυοδοσίας (ΤΕΚΕ),το οποίο καλύπτει ποσά ως 100.000 ευρώ ανά φυσικό πρόσωπο και ανά πιστωτικό ίδρυμα. Από την άλλη πλευρά,για να εξυπηρετηθεί η ζήτηση για αναλήψεις θα πρέπει να διατηρείται ένα συγκεκριμένο επίπεδο ρευστότητας από τις τράπεζες,το οποίο εξαρτάται από τη δυνατότητά τους να χρηματοδοτούνται είτε από την ΕΚΤ ή από την ΤτΕ.Εξάλλου,αν υπάρξει πανικός στα γκισέ και καταγραφούν ακραίες καταστάσεις με μαζικές αναλήψεις,το ενδεχόμενο επιβολής πλαφόν είναι υπαρκτό, αλλά αυτό ισχύει είτε βρισκόμαστε σε κατάσταση επιλεκτικής χρεοκοπίας είτε όχι.

Σκηνές Φαρ Ουέστ έζησαν τις πρώτες πρωινές ώρες οι θαμώνες γνωστού club της Αργυρούπολης.
Το περιστατικό περιελάμβανε δύο αστυνομικούς, ένα πιστόλι και ένα μαγαζί σε πανικό.

Κατά τις 5.30 το πρωί ειδικός φρουρός, που πληροφορίες των ήθελαν να εργάζεται στο εν λόγω club (επί της Γερουλάνου), ήρθε σε αντιπαράθεση για ασήμαντη αφορμή με άλλο θαμώνα του μαγαζιού. Όπως απεδείχθη και το δεύτερο άτομα της ιστορίας άνηκε στην Ελληνική Αστυνομία και συγκεκριμένα στην Κρατική Ασφάλεια.

Μαρτυρίες κάνουν λόγω για διαπληκτισμούς μεταξύ των δύο αντρών στις τουαλέτες του καταστήματος. Πάνω στην «κουβέντα» που είχαν οι δύο άνδρες, ο αστυνομικός της Ασφάλειας αποκαλύπτει την ιδιότητά του, με τον ειδικό φρουρό να τραβάει το όπλο του και να επιδεικνύει την ταυτότητά του, ζητώντας ταυτόχρονα να κάνει το ίδιο και ο συνάδελφός του. Στο μαγαζί επικράτησε πανικός, με τους ψυχραιμότερους να καλούν την άμεσο δράση.

ήταν έτοιμος να δώσει (πριν την προσφυγή μας στο ΔΝΤ) ο Β. Πούτιν στον Έλληνα πρωθυπουργό, τα «Επίκαιρα» και η ιστοσελίδα του περιοδικού συνομίλησαν με τον επικεφαλής της 5ης Περιφέρειας του ΣΑΕ, λίγα μόλις λεπτά μετά το πέρας της σύσκεψης του Ρώσου πρωθυπουργού με εκπροσώπους των εθνικών κοινοτήτων και των θρησκευτικών δογμάτων της Ρωσίας. Ο Ιβάν Σαββίδης χαμογελούσε γιατί είχε μόλις συνομιλήσει κατ’ ιδίαν με τον Β. Πούτιν κι ένοιωθε ότι η επιλογή του να «υψώσει τους τόνους» έναντι της κυβέρνησης στην Αθήνα αντιμετωπίστηκε άνωθεν με κατανόηση, αν όχι με επιβράβευση.
«Μπορώ πλέον να πω τη γνώμη μου με τη μέγιστη βεβαιότητα: το τηλεφώνημα στον Πούτιν, που μαζί προκαλέσαμε την περασμένη Πέμπτη, έγινε από τον Παπανδρέου μόνο και μόνο για να φανεί ότι δήθεν οι σχέσεις με τη Ρωσία είναι φυσιολογικές, ενώ τα προβλήματα παραμένουν πολλά», δήλωσε ο Ιβάν Σαββίδης, ο οποίος ήταν πια πλήρως ενήμερος για την έκταση, που πήραν οι δηλώσεις του για τα 25 δισ. ευρώ δανείου, τα οποία είχε την πρόθεση να χορηγήσει η ρωσική κυβέρνηση και ο Β.Πούτιν κατά τη συνάντησή του με τον Γ.Παπανδρέου στη Μόσχα το Φεβρουάριο του 2010, αλλά ουδείς έδειξε να ενδιαφέρεται.
«Φυσικά και δεν προτίθεμαι να πάρω πίσω τίποτε απ’ όσα δήλωσα, εφ’ όσον έχω άμεση γνώση ότι είναι αλήθεια. Όσο για τις απορίες, που κάποιοι διατύπωσαν, γιατί ο πρόεδρος Μεντβιέντεφ είπε τότε, λίγο πριν από τον πρωθυπουργό Πούτιν, στον Γ.Παπανδρέου να απευθυνθεί στο ΔΝΤ, έχω να πω ότι δεν γνωρίζουμε υπό ποιες ακριβώς συνθήκες και με ποιες διατυπώσεις έγινε η πρόταση. Γιατί δεν μας λέει κανείς; Κατά πρώτον η μία πρόταση δεν αποκλείει την άλλη: η Ρωσία είναι μέλος του ΔΝΤ, πληρώνει την ετήσια συνδρομή της και προτιμά αυτή να αξιοποιείται από φιλικές της χώρες. Την ίδια στιγμή η κυβέρνηση Παπανδρέου δεν κάνει τίποτε άλλο από το να ανακοινώνει στη Μόσχα το πάγωμα προηγούμενων συμφωνιών συνεργασίας μαζί της. Άρα μπορεί να ήταν μια αντίδραση σ’ αυτό ακριβώς. Και τέλος ποιος είπε ότι δεν μπορούν ο πρόεδρος και ο πρωθυπουργός μας να έχουν διαφορετικές τακτικές προσεγγίσεις ή γνώμες σε μια σειρά ζητήματα; Συνέβη για παράδειγμα με τη Λιβύη. Εδώ το θέμα μας είναι ότι η Ελλάδα δείχνει συστηματικά πως δεν την ενδιαφέρουν οι συνεργασίες με τη Ρωσία, έστω κι αν διακηρύττει συχνά πυκνά το αντίθετο», δηλώνει στα «Επίκαιρα» ο Ιβάν Σαββίδης.
«Ο Πούτιν είναι άνθρωπος ορθόδοξος, θα έλεγα φιλέλληνας και είναι κρίμα, αν όχι έγκλημα, που η Ελλάδα δεν έχει βρει τον τρόπο να εργαζόμαστε από κοινού, συστηματικά και βήμα το βήμα για την ανάπτυξη των ελληνορωσικών σχέσεων. Δεν σας το κρύβω ότι του ζήτησα να μην εγκαταλείψει την Ελλάδα και τους Έλληνες στη συμφορά, που μας έτυχε και προσπάθησα να του μεταφέρω ότι άλλο η κυβέρνηση Παπανδρέου και άλλο ο ελληνικός λαός και η Ελλάδα, που τον διαβεβαίωσα ότι συνεχίζει να κοιτά με ελπίδα προς τη Ρωσία», υποστήριξε ο Ι.Σαββίδης, χωρίς να κρύβει την απογοήτευσή του για την δυσάρεστη τροπή, που έχουν πάρει οι σχέσεις Μόσχας – Αθήνας.
«Τι θέλετε, δηλαδή, να σας πω εγώ, όταν οι ίδιοι οι βουλευτές του ΠΑΣΟΚ – δεν μπορώ να πω ποιοι ακριβώς – μου λένε άλλο ο Παπανδρέου κι άλλο το ΠΑΣΟΚ;», αναρωτήθηκε ο Ι.Σαββίδης, προβλέποντας επικείμενες μεγάλες εσωτερικές αλλαγές στο χώρο του κυβερνητικού κόμματος και εκλογές, που θα μπορούσαν να ανατρέψουν το υπάρχον πολιτικό σκηνικό και να επιταχύνουν την πορεία προς μια κυβέρνηση συνασπισμού και εθνικής σωτηρίας, την οποία είχε προτείνει σε παλαιότερες δηλώσεις του.

Με ένα μήνυμα του στο twitter o Τζος Τσίλντρες έσβησε τις άσχημες εντυπώσεις που είχαν δημιουργηθεί μετά τη συνέντευξη του που αναφερόταν υποτιμητικά στην Ελλάδα και τον Ολυμπιακό.

«Απλά για να καταλάβει ο κόσμος... Η εμπειρία μου στην Ευρώπη ήταν ΥΠΕΡΟΧΗ! Θέλω απλώς οι παίκτες να είναι ενημερωμένοι και έτοιμοι πριν πάνε εκεί» έλεγε το μήνυμα του «Τσίλι» που έδειξε πως δεν εννοούσε ότι είπε προ ημερών.

Ο Αμερικάνος φόργουορντ μίλησε με άσχημα λόγια για τα έζησε τη διετία που φορούσε τη φανέλα του Ολυμπιακού, αλλά λέγοντας πως πέρασε υπέροχα, διόρθωσε το λάθος του.

πολίτες στην Ελλάδα είναι αναγκασμένοι απο τις κλιματολογικές και ψυχολογικές συνθήκες της αφόρητης πίεσης να αναζητήσουν λίγη ανάπαυλα στην ύπαιθρο χώρα Παρά ταύτα, η κοινωνία η οποία κυριολεκτικά βράζει,έχει στραμένη ακατάπαυστα την προσοχή της στις οικονομικές εξελίξεις και είναι έτοιμη να παρέμβει αν τα πράγματα οδηγηθούν σε καταστάσεις που θα σφραγίζουν τον αφανισμό της..

Η δήλωση της Μέρκελ ότι θα χρειαστούν πολλά βήματα μέχρι να υπάρξει οριστική λύση για την Ελλάδα αποδεικνύει ότι η Ευρώπη δεν είναι αποφασισμένη να στηρίξει την Ελλάδα ουσιαστικά.

Η επικοινωνία Ομπάμα του προέδρου των ΗΠΑ με τους ευρωπαίους ηγέτες χθες αλλά και η κρίσιμη συνάντηση του προέδρου της Γαλλίας Ν Σαρκοζί με την Μέρκελ στην Γερμανία καταδεικνύουν ότι ασκούνται πιέσεις ώστε να βρεθεί μια λύση στο παρά ένα της συνόδου κορυφής.

Αν υπάρξει λύση η Ελλάδα θα αποφύγει την χρεοκοπία καθώς χωρίς λύση θα είναι μονόδρομος το haircut.

Αν υπάρξει λύση αν υπάρξει φως στο τούνελ η Ελλάδα θα διασωθεί από την χρεοκοπία και η Ευρώπη θα διατηρήσει την πολιτική και οικονομική συνοχή της.
Παραδόξως πάντως αν και τα μηνύματα δεν είναι ενθαρρυντικά ορισμένοι παράγοντες εμφανίζονται αισιόδοξοι για την Ελλάδα.
Όπως έχει τονιστεί με βάση πληροφορίες το σχήμα λύσης που προτείνεται και πιθανότατα να κατατεθεί ως βάση προς συζήτηση στην σύνοδο κορυφής αύριο 21 Ιουλίου είναι ένας συνδυασμός 4 παραμέτρων

1)Θα υπάρξει επαναγορά από την ΕΚΤ μέσω του EFSF ή της Ελλάδος που θα λάβει δάνειο από το EFSF θα επαναγοράσει τα ελληνικά ομόλογα της ΕΚΤ και άλλων μετόχων που θα ήθελαν να πωλήσουν τα ελληνικά χρεόγραφα.
2)Θα υπάρξει και rollover με επιμήκυνση του χρόνου αποπληρωμής από 10 έως 30 χρόνια με επιτόκιο 3,5%.
3)Θα χορηγηθεί νέο δάνειο στην Ελλάδα πιθανότατα 60 δις ευρώ.
4)Εξετάζεται ακόμη και το haircut 30% στο χρέος με την εγγύηση του EFSF υπό την έννοια ότι τρέχοντα ομόλογα θα αντικατασταθούν σε αγοραίες τιμές και τα νέα ομόλογα που θα εκδοθούν θα είναι εγγυημένα από το EFSF.

Αν όντως υπάρξει λύση η οποία θα χαρακτηριστεί εφαρμόσιμη τότε θα υπάρξει βελτίωση κλίματος ουσιαστική.

Αντιθέτως αν η λύση που προταθεί δεν ικανοποιήσει τους τοκογλύφους ο κίνδυνος εκτροπής θα είναι τουλάχιστον τεράστιος και εν συνεχεία η χρεοκοπία θα είναι απλά μονόδρομος.-bankingnews

Στην περίπτωση αυτή και η αντίδραση των πολιτών θα έχει τη μορφή φυσικού φαινομένου..

Στις 15-7-2011 επικοινώνησα τηλεφωνικά με τον υπεύθυνο κο Κ. Γ. στο αρμόδιο 11ο τμήμα του Υπουργείου Δικαιοσύνης για πληροφορίες που αφορούσαν τις διατυπώσεις μιας επίδοσης δικογράφου στο εξωτερικό. Η συνομιλία μαζί του από την πρώτη στιγμή ήταν για μένα μια ευχάριστη έκπληξη. Προθυμότατος και ευγενικός ο εν λόγω υπάλληλος να με πληροφορήσει με άκρα λεπτομέρεια για τις ενέργειες που έπρεπε να γίνουν, χωρίς να φείδεται λόγων και χρόνου. Στο σχόλιο μου ότι εκπλήσσομαι για την αντιμετώπιση αυτή, η απάντηση του ήταν "ότι αυτή είναι η δουλειά μας, να εξυπηρετούμε τον κόσμο". Εκτός από τη συνομιλία μας, τα αμέσως επόμενα λεπτά χωρίς ουδεμία καθυστέρηση το e mail μου γέμισε με πληροφορίες γραπτές και αναλυτικές για το θέμα που ήταν προς επίλυση. Σήμερα μάλιστα 20-7 και προς διευκόλυνση μου έλαβα ταχυδρομικά, έγγραφα συνοδευτικά του προς επίδοση δικογράφου μεταφρασμένα στην Γαλλική και Αγγλική γλώσσα, τα οποία ουδεμία υποχρέωση είχε ο εν λόγω υπάλληλος να συντάξει και να μου αποστείλει. Τα ίδια ευμενή σχόλια για τον συγκεκριμένο υπάλληλο άκουσα και από άλλους συναδέλφους μου πράγμα που σημαίνει πως η περίπτωση μου δεν ήταν επιλεκτική. Συμπεριφορά με την οποία τιμά τον εαυτό του, το λειτούργημα του, την υπηρεσία του και κατά παρέκταση το έρμο κράτος που ζούμε. Η άλλη πλευρά του δημοσίου υπαλλήλου, που δίνει μηνύματα αισιοδοξίας και την οποία χρειάζεται και πρέπει να αναδείξομε.

Υπέρ μιας βιώσιμης και λειτουργικής λύσης στο Κυπριακό τάσσονται το ΠΑΣΟΚ, το ΚΚΕ και ο Σ

ΥΝ, με ανακοινώσεις που εξέδωσαν, με αφορμή τη συμπλήρωση 37 ετών από την... τουρκική εισβολή στην Κύπρο, επιρρίπτοντας παράλληλα τις ευθύνες στην Τουρκία για τη μη επίλυση του προβλήματος.

Συγκεκριμένα το ΠΑΣΟΚ στην ανακοίνωση του, αφού τονίζει ότι «το Κυπριακό παραμένει πρόβλημα εισβολής και κατοχής και ως εκ τούτου η Τουρκία έχει την κύρια ευθύνη για τη μη λύση του προβλήματος», επισημαίνει την ετοιμότητα του να προσφέρει κάθε δυνατή βοήθεια στην κατεύθυνση της επίτευξης διζωνικής-δικοινοτικής ομοσπονδίας, στη βάση των Συμφωνιών Υψηλού Επιπέδου, των ψηφισμάτων του ΟΗΕ και του ευρωπαϊκού κεκτημένου και καλεί την τουρκική πλευρά να σταματήσει να κωλυσιεργεί και να τηρήσει μια πραγματικά εποικοδομητική στάση στη διαδικασία αυτή.

«Μια επανενωμένη, ευρωπαϊκή Κύπρος θα δώσει ισχυρό παράδειγμα περιφερειακής συνύπαρξης και συνεργασίας» αναφέρει χαρακτηριστικά η ανακοίνωση του ΠΑΣΟΚ.

Την ανάγκη όλοι οι Έλληνες να είναι ενωμένοι και αποφασιστικοί στη συμπαράστασή τους στους αγώνες του Κυπριακού Ελληνισμού, επισημαίνει ο πρόεδρος της ΝΔ Αντώνης Σαμαράς. Χαρακτηρίζει την 20ή Ιουλίου ως ημέρα μνήμης για τη μεγαλύτερη εθνική τραγωδία στη νεότερη ιστορία μας αλλά και υπόμνησης σε ολόκληρο τον κόσμο της πραγματικής διάστασης του Κυπριακού ως προβλήματος εισβολής, κατοχής και παράνομου εποικισμού των κατεχόμενων κυπριακών εδαφών.

Ο κ. Σαμαράς ζητεί να υπάρξει λύση στο πλαίσιο των αποφάσεων του ΟΗΕ και του ευρωπαϊκού κεκτημένου, μια λύση που, όπως επισημαίνει θα πρέπει να βάζει τέλος στα τετελεσμένα της εισβολής και να οδηγεί σε μια επανενωμένη Κύπρο, χωρίς εποίκους και στρατεύματα κατοχής, μία λύση «πραγματικά λειτουργική και βιώσιμη, ευρωπαϊκή και δημοκρατική».

«Τα 37 χρόνια από την τουρκική εισβολή και κατοχή του 37% της Κύπρου διδάσκουν για το ρόλο του ιμπεριαλισμού και αναδεικνύουν την αναγκαιότητα της πάλης για δίκαιη και βιώσιμη λύση του κυπριακού προβλήματος» τονίζει σε ανακοίνωση του το ΚΚΕ και επαναλαμβάνει τη θέση του «για Κύπρο ανεξάρτητη, χωρίς ξένα στρατεύματα, βάσεις και εγγυήτριες δυνάμεις. Κύπρο κυρίαρχη με ενιαία διεθνή προσωπικότητα και ιθαγένεια, διζωνική, δικοινοτική ομοσπονδία».

Στο ίδιο μήκος κύματος ο ΣΥΝ τονίζει στην ανακοίνωση του ότι «σήμερα ο αγώνας για τον τερματισμό της κατοχής και την επανένωση της Κύπρου, σύμφωνα με τις αποφάσεις του ΟΗΕ και το ευρωπαϊκό κεκτημένο, περνάει μέσα από τη συνεπή διεκδίκηση μιας λύσης δικοινοτικής -διζωνικής ομοσπονδίας, με μια κυριαρχία, μια ιθαγένεια και μια διεθνή προσωπικότητα».

Δυστυχώς, όμως, σημειώνει ο ΣΥΝ, οι διακοινοτικές συνομιλίες υπό την αιγίδα του ΟΗΕ, που βρίσκονται σε εξέλιξη, δεν έχουν φέρει μέχρι τώρα αποτελέσματα που να γεννούν αισιοδοξία. Η κυβέρνηση της Άγκυρας, παρά τις δηλώσεις της, δεν έχει μετακινηθεί από τις θέσεις της ως δύναμη κατοχής, ενώ αρνείται να εκπληρώσει ακόμα και δεσμεύσεις οι οποίες συνδέονται με την πορεία ένταξης της Τουρκίας στην ΕΕ, όπως η εφαρμογή του πρωτοκόλλου για την τελωνειακή ένωση και η αναγνώριση της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας.

Ο ΣΥΝ εκφράζει την αμέριστη αλληλεγγύη του με τον Κυπριακό λαό, ελληνοκυπρίους και τουρκοκυπρίους και εύχεται να ξεπεράσει γρήγορα με ενότητα και αλληλεγγύη τη νέα τραγωδία με την καταστροφική έκρηξη στη ναυτική βάση «Ευάγγελος Φλωράκης».

Την τιμητική του στις σελίδες της «Marca» είχε ο Θρύλος, αφού η ισπανική εφημερίδα πραγματοποίησε αφιέρωμα στην ομάδας με αφορμή την μεταγραφή του Φραν Γέστε.

Στην ιβηρική χώρα ο Ολυμπιακός είναι πλέον αρκετά γνωστός και έτσι η «Marca» πραγματοποίησε αφιέρωμα στον σύλλογο του Λιμανιού, όπου επισήμανε πως με την απόκτηση του Φραν Γέστε το ισπανικό στοιχείο ενισχύθηκε.

Married butcher puts up sign to combat gay rumours

A married butcher in East Yorkshire has taken the step of putting a sign in his window declaring he is not gay.

Brian Fields, who owns the Fields of Anlaby butchers in Hessle, announced that the rumours were completely false and that his children were being bullied at school over the gossip.

He says that for the last three months, he has been the subject of rumours which claim his wife is divorcing him over a gay affair.

He believes the rumours may have been started by those who are jealous of his award-winning business and says he and his wife and three children are still very much together.

According to the Daily Mail, Mr Fields said: “It started about three months ago when friends said they had heard the rumour.

“I thought it would just go away on its own but it just got bigger and bigger. Then I thought I had to take a stance.”

This week, he put up a sign in his shop window asking people to stop gossiping because it was upsetting his wife and children.

Mr Fields said he had no problem with gay people.

I would normally ignore stupid rumours and have done so for the last 3 months and have done in the past and I am use to it, I suppose it is the price you pay for being successful and in the public eye but I am afraid that nowadays there are some people that like nothing better to cause trouble and love to gossip, not caring whether it is true or not, it’s a bit of excitement for this and a sad reflection of our times.

But the rumour that I am gay and my wife is divorcing me has grown out of all proportion and it seems to be spreading everywhere, even to the school where my 3 young children attend. This is not fair on my wife and children as we all know children can be cruel and bullying can be a problem.

My wife and I are happily married, we have a happy home life and will continue to do so, but when my 7 year old daughter comes home from school and asks who she will live with if we split up and there isn’t even a problem, I think this is completely out of order and a disgrace and time for me to take a stand!

So please can you correct these people if they have already told you this rumour or if they try to pass the rumour on to you in the future, as this will help quash these stupid rumours, so my family and I can get on with our lives.

For the record I have nothing against people that are gay and believe that people should be left to live their private life, however they choose, without prejudice and without gossiping and that includes my family.

My talk with my divorcing friends over the past few weeks has gotten me to thinking. They say things changed, that people stopped caring, stopped interacting. What causes that?

I know that I've changed. Over the almost two decades of being married, I've changed, and not necessarily for the better. My relationship with my wife has changed too and it doesn't necessarily all have to do with my bisexuality or extra-marital affairs.

I think what changes people is the realization that life is, well, life. It's work, its hard, it's difficult. It's has it's ups but, has plenty of downs. And it's the downs that change you.

I remember getting married, how happy I was. How excited I was. New job, new place to live, newlyweds. Everything was new, exciting and fun. Then there were the other accomplishments we had together: new car, new house...then kids. Having children, were one of the most exciting, happy days of my life. Playing with them, watching them grow, talk, walk. Every step was a happy day.

Then, there was the sickness and eventual death of my father. It was soon after the birth of my second son. At some point, I was consumed with traveling by plane back and forth to see him at every important doctor appointment, treatment, surgery. To be there for my Mom, to be there for him. To make sure he was going to get well, as predicted by his doctors. My wife encouraged me to be there and never questioned my need to help my family. Soon, my father seemed incredibly frail. Unable to walk on his own without assistance. Out of breath after a few steps. Unstable on his own two feet. This from a man that helped others, worked hard, raised children, was looked up as an example of what a father, husband and friend should be. This is what he had become.
One day, I got a call from my Mom. I had to come quick..take the next plane out. My father isn't well. I book a flight...race to the airport, and nervously wait. I must be there..I have to see him. I want to be there for my mother. The plane is inexplicably delayed. Then again. Finally, we board and take off, then more than five hours later for a normal 2 1/2 hour trip - we finally land.

The next half hour or so was out of a movie: I race out of the airport, grab a cab and tell them my hospital destination. The driver understands my urgency and drives accordingly. I pay him, run into the hospital and tear through the hallways to the elevator down another hallway to the Intensive Care waiting room. As I walk in, my Mom is there standing, looks at me and shakes her head, with tears in her eyes, and brings her hands up as if she doesn't know what to say. I drop my bag and say "What's happened?" She grabs me in a hug, and cry's "it's too late."

I hug my Mom, cry and we go to see my father. I then head to another room to make some calls...and inform the family that my father has died. I get angrier and angrier...I tell my wife how I was delayed, how I rushed, how I just missed being with my Mom and father when I was needed most. I'm hysterical, I'm mentally exhausted, I'm fuming with anger and now livid!

I bang the phone down, once, twice, three times. I rip the phone from the wall, and across the empty room. I'm screaming, I'm crying. The door opens and there stands my Mom, a hospital security guard and a nurse.

"I was supposed to be here. I should have been here. American fucking Airlines..there were delays!" I'm screaming.."I wasn't here when my father died because American Airlines couldn't get their fucking plane here on time."

My mother consoles me. The guard stays until I'm calm and I apologize for my violence.

For the next year, I mourned. It was the first father's day, the first holiday, the first birthday, the first of everything without my Dad's smiling face. Every day was a day to be mourned.

And I've changed. From that moment on, I realized this ride called life is not a game. It's not always fun. The good times, don't necessarily outweigh the bad. The good times are good indeed. But they are there as a juxtaposition of the bad: they are there for comparison. Enjoy them, because bad times are right around the corner. I know, it's a glass half-full mentality...yes I'm a pessimist.

When you're young, you enjoy life. Hopefully, there's little to worry about. You've got the love and security of your parents. But, we always want to be a grown-up. As we age, we get to experience disease, heartache and death. We bury our relatives, our close friends, and our parents. We see friends have adversity: get sick, divorce. We struggle in other ways...financially, relationship-wise.

We harden. Yes, I hardened, and I don't mean sexually. Life hardens you. It makes you angry. It makes you sad. It causes you to lose the emotions that made life fun, the child-like feeling that you can do no wrong. You lose the innocence: the belief in Santa, the tooth fairy, or that Willy Wonka really does live.

My personality has taken a hit, not just by my fathers death, but by other deaths too, by current events (aka 9/11) and by the trial and tribulations of life in general. Being happy takes work.

When someone asks why relationships change..to me, it's a natural progression of becoming an adult. We are no longer children. We no longer have the cocoon of safety of our parents. We struggle all our adolescence to finally grow up, be on our own, and this is what we have to look forward to.

We now have experienced life...we're a grown-up.
But, being gown-up it isn't what we expected. It isn't always so good.

The Shebab expelled foreign aid groups two years ago, accusing them of being Western spies and Christian crusaders. But the group recently said it would allow in relief, faced with the Horn of Africa's worst food crisis in years.

"Al-Shebab's activities have clearly made the current situation much worse," Johnnie Carson, US assistant secretary of state for African affairs, told reporters.

"We call on all of those in south-central Somalia who have it within their authority to allow refugee groups and organizations to operate there to do so," he said.

A famine is generally declared when the mortality rate reaches over two deaths per 10,000 person per day, and when wasting of above 30 percent occurs across an entire region, according to UN criteria.

UN High Commissioner for Refugees spokesman Adrian Edwards stressed that the criteria had to be fulfilled across a region, whereas UNHCR data reflected only the situation of refugees arriving in the camps.

Beyond mortality rates, Spiegel also cited "extremely rare and very high" malnutrition data.

The severe acute malnutrition rate reached 26.8 percent in June, while the baseline rate should be below 1.0 percent.

However, there were signs that the situation was improving on this front, with preliminary data in July indicating a drop in the severe acute malnutrition rate.

This could be because Somalis have heard about aid in camps, and are therefore leaving their homeland earlier, Spiegel explained.

Apple saw the number of Macintosh computers sold climb 14 percent to 3.95 million, while iPod sales slid 20 percent to 7.54 million units.

"We are extremely pleased with our performance," said Apple chief financial officer Peter Oppenheimer.

"Looking ahead to the fourth fiscal quarter of 2011, we expect revenue of about $25 billion and we expect diluted earnings per share of about $5.50."

Manchester City are closing in on a deal to sign Atletico Madrid's Sergio Aguero, BBC Sport understands.

The move comes despite the deadlock in Carlos Tevez's proposed move to Brazilian outfit Corinthians.

The Tevez transfer is on hold after the Brazilian side contradicted City boss Roberto Mancini's claim that a deal had been agreed.

But City are confident they can beat Juventus and Real Madrid to sign his Argentina team-mate Aguero.

Mancini's original plan was to wait until the Tevez deal was concluded before moving for Aguero and Corinthians need to move quickly to complete the transfer before the Brazilian window closes on 20 July.

Corinthians said in a statement that City "have asked for changes in the form of payment and on the value of the transfer" that would finally see Tevez leave after a protracted transfer saga.

City officials are privately frustrated by the delay - but BBC Sport understands they are satisfied they are making good progress in negotiations with Atletico that would see Aguero, 23, arrive as an instant and ready-made replacement for his fellow countryman.

It is believed the only change requested to the offer accepted by City for Tevez, which was £38.6m - 40m Euros plus 4m Euros in add-ons - was a minor detail in the first instalment of payment and did not relate to the value of the deal.

Two senior police officers who resigned after links emerged between the Metropolitan Police and the News of the World will be questioned by MPs later.

Former Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson and John Yates, who quit as assistant commissioner on Monday, will be asked about their links to Neil Wallis.

The former News International executive was hired as an adviser to the Met.

The home affairs committee hearing comes ahead of another group of MPs questioning News Corp's Rupert Murdoch.

From noon, MPs will question Sir Paul and the Met's public affairs director Dick Fedorcio.

Just over an hour later, Mr Yates is expected to be asked by MPs to "clarify" the testimony he gave last week, when he expressed regret at his 2009 decision not to reopen the original phone-hacking investigation, despite reports of new evidence.

Mr Yates announced his resignation after the Metropolitan Police Authority warned he was facing suspension and an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

The police watchdog has been asked to look at complaints that Mr Yates "inappropriately" secured a job for Mr Wallis' daughter. Mr Yates has insisted his conscience was clear.Sir Paul's resignation and his recall to committee was triggered by the disclosure that Mr Wallis, who was Andy Coulson's deputy at the News of the World - had been employed by the Met as a part-time PR consultant.

There has been further criticism of Mr Yates for serving on the committee that vetted Mr Wallis in 2009 for the position.

The conduct of the ex-commissioner is also expected to be examined by the IPCC.

When bloodless coups come about in dictatorships, often it's when the head of government is away on a foreign visit.

But democracies bring their own dangers for absent political leaders.

If David Cameron had not trekked to Africa, he may as well have hired the vast illuminated advertising space in Piccadilly Circus and adorned it with the legend "government in crisis -official".

But no sooner had he departed than some of his own leading backbenchers were whispering that it looked like he was running away.

Chancellor George Osborne was meant to address the restless membership of the influential 1922 committee of backbench MPs on Monday, but the meeting was scrapped - with members settling for nothing less than an encounter with the prime minister himself on Wednesday.

Labour has been on the front foot, but for that very reason restlessness might not turn to revolt as the Conservatives see the logic in closing ranks.
Febrile atmosphere

But a previous Conservative prime minister, Harold Macmillan, was right to warn of the hazards of "events, dear boy".

It might not take much for some backbenchers to change their view that, grudgingly, David Cameron is an asset - to seeing him as a potential liability.

The outgoing Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson has already taken a pop at the prime minister and may do so again at the Home Affairs Select Committee later.

When the Murdochs and Rebekah Brooks go before the culture, media and sport committee, some members will be intent on asking questions about Andy Coulson, David Cameron's former communications director, in an attempt to bring the crisis closer to the door of number 10.

Now the febrile atmosphere may dissipate.

But as David Cameron touches down on Tuesday evening, he will find that the bookies are taking bets that he will be gone -permanently - by the weekend.

Government 'to back badger cull for South West'

The government is expected to announce it will back a cull of badgers in south-west England.

The coalition has always said it was "minded" to introduce culling to help fight bovine TB.

A similar badger cull was approved in Wales but the decision was overturned in the High Court.

Sources have told BBC West political correspondent Paul Barltrop the two areas where the cull will operate will be in Gloucestershire and Devon.

Campaign organisations remain opposed to the cull and are likely to challenge it in court.

Bovine TB costs the UK economy about £100m per year, blighting farmers in areas such as south-west England, with tens of thousands of cattle killed.

It is likely plans for a cull will move a step forward, with the government indicating that nothing in its lengthy public consultation has changed its mind.

The Environment Secretary, Caroline Spelman, will address MPs in the Commons later in response to a consultation on badger control.

But BBC environment correspondent Jeremy Cooke said it still seemed unlikely that any cull of badgers would happen in the immediate future.

There could be further consultation on the method which would be used to kill badgers and how the cull would be organised.

The government also knows that it is certain to face legal challenges by campaigners who insist that the scientific evidence suggests that culling badgers would not reduce levels of bovine TB, but may actually make it worse, our correspondent says.
'Something must be done'

Last month, a poll for the BBC suggested a majority of Britons in both town and country opposed killing badgers to curb cattle tuberculosis.Across the country, 63% said badgers should not be killed for cattle TB, with 31% in favour of culling and the remainder undecided.

But one cattle farmer, Aled Rees, said something had to be done.

"I don't want to kill badgers unnecessarily, but we can't go on as we are. Something has to be done about it and let's get into a position, sometime in the future, where we can vaccinate the cattle and vaccinate the badgers and have an an end to all this."

Government statistics show that the incidence of cattle TB declined slightly between 2009 and 2010, probably due to the escalation of TB testing on farms and restrictions on herd movements.

However, provisional figures indicate that incidence was slightly higher in the first two months of this year than in the corresponding period for 2010.

Camille Strauss-Kahn is a friend of the alleged victim, Tristane Banon.

Ms Banon says the former IMF chief assaulted her in a Paris flat in 2003 as she attempted to conduct an interview with him.

Separately, Mr Strauss-Kahn denies charges of sexually assaulting a New York hotel maid on 14 May.

Mr Strauss-Kahn was freed from house arrest in the US city earlier this month after the credibility of his accuser's evidence came into question.
Counter-claim

Police questioned Camille Strauss-Kahn on Monday, a judicial official speaking on condition of anonymity told the Associated Press.

Her mother, Mr Strauss-Kahn's ex-wife, Brigitte Guillemette, was questioned on Friday, legal sources said. She is Ms Banon's godmother.It was shortly after Mr Strauss-Kahn was arrested in New York that Ms Banon - now 32 - came forward to say that he had tried to assault her eight years ago.

She said she had not pursued the case at the time because "everyone told me it would never succeed", but that following the allegations in New York there was "perhaps a chance to finally be listened to".

Mr Strauss-Kahn denies any wrongdoing, and has launched a counter-claim, suing Ms Banon for making false statements.

Formula 1 engineers have been testing out whether fighter jet canopies can be used on F1 cars to improve safety.

The FIA, the organisation in charge of world motor sport, carried out the experiment at its scientific institute.

F1 cars already go a long way to protect drivers from 200mph crashes, pile-ups and summersaults.

But these latest tests are specifically designed to find out if canopies would help protect them from debris on the track.

Two years ago Felipe Massa suffered a brain injury and fractured skull after being hit by a metal spring during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The size of a person's fist, the spring had come loose from another driver's car and slammed into Massa's helmet at more than 125 miles per hour.

At the time team boss Ross Brawn said: "We need to digest what's happened and understand it properly.

"It is time to look at the whole thing and take a balanced approach.

"You can have covers or canopies but you have to be able to get at the driver and extract him if there is an accident."
F-16 fighter jet

That's exactly what these tests have been designed to find out.

Andy Mellor is the FIA Institute's technical director.

"We have basically been looking into the science and engineering of protecting the cockpit from aggressive debris that can enter that space," he said.So he and his team took to Bentwaters airfield near Ipswich with two tests in mind.

The first involved a polycarbonate windshield, the second an F-16 fighter jet canopy made from areospace-spec polycarbonate.

Then a typical Formula 1 wheel and tyre, weighing 20kg, was fired into both at 140mph.

"It's an extremely precisely calibrated set-up," said Mr Mellor.

"Quite a lot of engineering has gone into it."

There were three firings for the two experiments, two at the windshield and one at the canopy.

"The apparatus worked perfectly but visually it was possible to see that the windshield did manage to deflect the wheel over the space that would be occupied by the driver's helmet, but in so doing it sustained significant damage," he said.

It was a different story from the F-16 canopy though which survived the test intact and simply deflected the tyre away.

As for what happens with the results of these tests, Mr Mellor said: "This test was purely to look into the mechanical safety effect.

"Now that we have data on that, we can move towards a decision on what's next."

Asteroid Vesta reveals its scars

Nasa's Dawn spacecraft has returned some remarkable new imagery of the asteroid Vesta, now that it is safely in orbit around the 530km-wide rock.

The pictures reveal the ancient body's craters, slopes and grooves in detail that is far beyond the vision of Earth-bound telescopes, including Hubble.

Dawn scientists will have a busy year interpreting the asteroid's features.

They will be looking for some fresh insight on how such objects came into being 4.6 billion years ago.

It is often said the asteroids, which dominate a region of space between Mars and Jupiter, are the rubble that was left over after the planets proper had formed.

"We are beginning the study of arguably the oldest extant primordial surface in the Solar System," said Dawn's principal investigator Christopher Russell from the University of California, Los Angeles.

"This region of space has been ignored for far too long. So far, the images received to date reveal a complex surface that seems to have preserved some of the earliest events in Vesta's history, as well as logging the onslaught that Vesta has suffered in the intervening eons."

Dawn's quest at Vesta over the coming months is to undertake a comprehensive survey.

The probe carries instruments to detect the mineral and elemental composition of its surface rocks. It will be looking for evidence of geological processes such as mountain building and rifting. The Dawn science team is keen to understand how Vesta's surface has been remodelled over time by impacts and even lava flows.

Dawn's remote sensing instruments will also be able to discern something of the asteroid's internal structure. The expectation is that scientists will confirm it has a metallic core.

From the outside, Vesta looks like a punctured football, the result of a colossal collision sometime in its past that knocked off its south polar region.

Much the rock that was liberated in that mighty impact has found its way to Earth, falling to the ground as meteorites.

Dawn was launched by the US space agency almost four years ago.

The probe, which is propelled by an ion engine, allowed itself to be captured in the gravitational field of Vesta on Saturday.

Although initially orbiting the rock at several thousand km, Dawn will move closer over time - perhaps to within 200km if navigators are confident there is no risk to the spacecraft.

Once it has completed its work at Vesta, the probe will move on to the even bigger rock, Ceres. With a diameter of roughly 950km, this world has a much more rounded shape and is classed as a "dwarf planet", the same designation now ascribed to Pluto.

Sean Hoare death: Whistle-blower post-mortem to be held

A post-mortem examination will be held later into the death of a man police believe to be former News of the World (NoW) journalist Sean Hoare.

Police say his death is unexplained but is not being treated as suspicious, and his next of kin have been informed.

Mr Hoare, 47, who had claimed phone hacking was rife at the NoW, was found dead at his home in Watford on Monday.

He had also told the BBC's Panorama programme that phone hacking was "endemic" at the Sunday tabloid.

When he first spoke out, Mr Hoare told Panorama the then NoW editor Andy Coulson had asked him to hack phones - something Mr Coulson has denied.

The former journalist was also interviewed by the New York Times last year in which he said hacking was far more extensive than the NoW acknowledged when police first investigated hacking claims in 2006.

Hertfordshire Police said in a statement: "Police investigations continue into the unexplained death of a man who, whilst formal identification is yet to take place, police believe to be Sean Hoare.

"The post-mortem is set to take place today. The man's next of kin have been informed and the family are being supported by police at this sad time."

Mr Hoare's body was discovered after police were called to his home in Langley Road, Watford at 1040 BST on Monday.

The showbiz journalist had worked on the Sun before being recruited by former NoW editor Andy Coulson to News International's Sunday title.

Israeli commandos have boarded a boat trying to breach Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip, the military says.

The Dignite-al Karama, the sole representative of an initial 10-vessel flotilla, had earlier been surrounded by warships and warned to change course.

A military spokeswoman told AFP news agency the boat was being towed towards the Israeli port of Ashdod.

She said the operation to board it had been conducted peacefully.

The Dignite-al Karama is part of Freedom Flotilla II, which has been trying to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza since the end of June. Flotilla organisers say despite the opening of Gaza's Egyptian border, the territory remains under "unlawful blockade" by the Israelis.

In an earlier statement, the Israeli military said the aid could be delivered without breaching the blockade.

"The Israel navy notified the Al Karama that it is on a route leading to an area under a maritime security blockade off the coast of Gaza, and reminded them any supplies they may have on board may be transferred, legally, through the existing land crossings and the Ashdod port," the statement said.
'No contact'

Protest organiser Julien Rivoire said at least three warships had surrounded the boat and communications had been jammed.

Speaking to AFP from Paris on Tuesday morning, Mr Rivoire said the French-flagged Dignite-al Karama had been stopped about 40 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza.

"We can't get in touch with them by phone or by Internet," he said.

The activists' Twitter account said the navy asked for their location and they gave it to them. They said four navy ships were following the boat - three flanking their vessel on the left and one on the right.

One activist tweeted that the military had threatened to board the boat if it did not head away from the blockade.
Greek ban

On Monday, Thomas Sommer-Houdeville, a French activist on board the Dignite-al Karam told AFP the boat was only carrying a "symbolic message of peace and hope and love" and Israel had no reason to intercept it.

"We hope that they will not, we don't have a plan but we have a peaceful humanitarian mission. We are a peaceful boat flying a French flag."

Freedom Flotilla II said a ban on flotilla boats leaving Greek ports had stopped many of its vessels sailing. The Greek government said the ban was intended to protect activists.

Earlier this month, the captain of flotilla vessel The Audacity of Hope was arrested in the Greek port of Perama and charged with trying to leave port without permission and of endangering the lives of passengers.

In 2010, nine Turkish activists were killed when Israeli commandos stormed the lead ship of the first Freedom Flotilla, causing an international outcry.

As a result, Israel eased its blockade on Gaza, which it says is necessary to stop weapons smuggling and put pressure on Hamas.

It increased sanctions on the impoverished Palestinian territory in 2006 after militants captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. Israel tightened them further still a year later when Hamas ousted rival Palestinian organisation Fatah from the territory.

Although the Islamist group won Palestinian legislative elections in January 2006, it refuses to recognise Israel or to renounce violence and is designated in the West as a terror organisation.

Swimmer Keri-Anne Payne qualifies for London 2012 Olympics

Keri-Anne Payne has become the first British athlete to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The 23-year-old swimmer won the gold medal in the 10k open water event at the Fina World Championships in Shanghai to seal her spot.

The top 10 finishers in the race automatically earned Olympic places.

The 2009 world champion and 2008 Olympic silver medallist completed the course at Jinshan City Beach in two hours, one minute and 58.1 seconds.

Italy's Martina Grimaldi finished second, while Greece's Marianna Lymperta was third.

It was Great Britain's first medal of the competition in China and Payne can now turn her attention to the pool programme, where she has qualified for the 1500m freestyle and 4x200m relay."I couldn't be happier right now and it's great to make the team but I know I have to keep going as next year is going to be even harder," said Payne.

"It's an amazing feeling. There is a massive sense of relief because now I can just concentrate on training to make sure I'm at my absolute peak in London."

The Stockport swimmer led from the start of the race in scorching conditions, although Australia's Melissa Gorman and Grimaldi never allowed Payne to get out of sight.

Grimaldi, the 2010 World Open Water Championships winner, and Gorman closed down the Briton as they entered the final stretch, moving to within a body length before Payne responded.

As the front two swimmers surged clear, Gorman dropped off the pace dramatically in the closing stages and was overtaken by the fast-finishing Lymperta.

Payne's qualification for the Olympics earned praise from Team GB Chef de Mission and British Olympic Association CEO Andy Hunt.

"Keri-Anne's outstanding performance to win gold is a terrific personal accomplishment and the Olympic qualification represents a significant milestone on the road to 2012 for Team GB," said Hunt.

"In terms of Team GB Olympic qualification, that's one down, around 549 to go - well done Keri-Anne Payne for getting the ball rolling."

Payne added: "Last year wasn't the best for me so this is a massive positive and I've also just found out my sister [Janine] is in labour back in the UK so hopefully it will be a good day all round.

Lulz Security hackers target Sun website

A group of computer hackers has tampered with the website of News International-owned The Sun's website.

At first, readers were redirected to a hoax story which said Rupert Murdoch had been found dead in his garden.

A group of hackers called Lulz Security, which has previously targeted companies including Sony, claimed responsibility via Twitter.

Visitors to the Sun website were then redirected to the group's Twitter page, before News International took it down.

News International said it was "aware" of what was happening but made no further comment.

Readers trying to access thesun.co.uk were taken to new-times.co.uk and a story entitled "Media mogul's body discovered".

It suggested that Mr Murdoch had been found after he had "ingested a large quantity of palladium".

After that site stopped working, The Sun's address was re-directing to LulzSec's Twitter account, which claimed to be displaying "hacked internal Sun staff data" in one entry.

In another, the group said: "Arrest us. We dare you. We are the unstoppable hacking generation...."
Disbanding

It is thought the Times website and the News International corporate website were taken down by the company as a precaution on Monday evening.

BBC technology reporter Iain MacKenzie said the attack on the Sun website was in line with LulzSec's "hacktivist" ethos, with the combination of a mischief-making news story, and a target that is seen as being involved in corporate wrongdoing.

He said: "Clearly this is not the most significant development in the scandal currently engulfing News International. But the turning of the hacking tables is, at least, curiously ironic sideshow."

Last month the hacking group announced it was disbanding.

Lulz Security made its announcement through its Twitter account, giving no reason for its decision.

A statement published on a file-sharing website said that its "planned 50-day cruise has expired".

The group leapt to prominence by carrying out attacks on companies such as Sony and Nintendo.

Broadcasters Fox and PBS, the CIA, and the United States Senate have also been cyber-attacked by the group.

As a parting shot, the group released a selection of documents apparently including confidential material taken from the Arizona police department and US telecoms giant AT&T.

Phone-hacking: MPs to quiz Murdochs and Rebekah Brooks

News Corporation chiefs Rupert and James Murdoch and former executive Rebekah Brooks will be quizzed by MPs later about the phone-hacking scandal.

The Murdochs agreed to appear before the Commons media committee after it issued a summons for them.

The MPs have said they have questions over evidence given by Mrs Brooks and Andy Coulson - both ex-News of the World editors - at a hearing in 2003.

Two senior police figures who quit over the scandal also face MPs' questions.

The committee hearing is the latest in a series of dramatic developments in the phone-hacking saga.

Mrs Brooks quit as chief executive of News International - the UK arm of News Corporation - on Friday. On Sunday she was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications and corruption.
Unexplained death

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson resigned on Sunday and Assistant Commissioner John Yates quit on Monday over the hiring of a former News of the World journalist now alleged to have been involved in phone-hacking as a PR consultant for the force.

Meanwhile investigations continue into the death of former News of the World journalist Sean Hoare, who had made allegations of phone hacking. Mr Hoare's body was found at his home on Monday. Police say his death is as yet unexplained but not thought to be suspicious. And Prime Minister David Cameron is cutting short his trip to Africa in order to make a statement in the Commons on Wednesday and answer questions "arising" from recent events.

Mr Cameron remains under intense pressure over his decision to hire Mr Coulson as his communications chief, BBC political correspondent Iain Watson said.

Mr Coulson resigned from the post over the phone-hacking scandal though he said he had not known about it during his time as NoW editor.

Mrs Brooks resigned as chief executive of News International last week amid huge pressure - she was editor of the News of the World in 2002 when murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler's mobile phone was allegedly hacked into by a private investigator working for the News of the World but has denied knowing anything about it.

She had already agreed to appear before the Commons culture, media and sport committee for a special one-off evidence session on Tuesday.

But her arrest at the weekend may limit the questions she can be asked by the committee - for fear of jeopardising any police investigation. Her lawyer has said she is not guilty of any crime and has said no allegations were put to her during nine hours of questioning on Sunday.

News Corporation CEO Rupert Murdoch and his son James - who is in charge of the company's European operations - initially declined to appear before the committee but changed their minds after the committee issued a summons.

News Corporation has denied reports it was holding a meeting to discuss a replacement for Rupert Murdoch as CEO of the company. A spokesman told the BBC: "As you would expect, the board has had a plan in place for some time and it regularly re-evaluates those plans. Suggestions that a plan is being currently accelerated or implemented are inaccurate."
'Utmost care'

It is rare to see executives as senior as the Murdochs appear before a Parliamentary committee - although Rupert Murdoch did appear before a Lords committee, sitting in New York, in 2007.

In his response to the committee, James Murdoch said he was committed to ensuring that allegations about the News of the World - which has since been shut down - are "fully investigated and dealt with appropriately and robustly".

He also said they had committed to full co-operation with the current police inquiry and the planned judge-led inquiry - and asked that the committee "take the utmost care in ensuring that the committee hearing does not run any risk of prejudicing that investigation and subsequent prosecutions".The committee is likely to ask James Murdoch about his statement two weeks ago that the News of the World had "made statements to Parliament without being in full possession of the facts" - and that he had approved out-of-court settlements when he did not have "a complete picture" of what had happened.

Among members is Labour MP Tom Watson, who has long campaigned on the issue of phone-hacking and on Monday urged the Serious Fraud Office to investigate out-of-court settlements made to hacking victims.

Committee chairman John Whittingdale says he hopes MPs will not act as a "lynch mob" but will not "let them off".

Mr Whittingdale, a Conservative MP, has said his committee's purpose will be "to try and get closer to what actually happened and to uncover the truth".

He told the BBC on Sunday: "We obviously understand there's an ongoing police inquiry but that shouldn't, I think, prevent us from learning a lot more about what went on, who knew it and who authorised it."

He added: "I don't want us to be a lynch mob. On the other hand I don't want us to let them off without properly addressing the questions which we have."

Tuesday's session is expected to generate a lot of interest - two "overspill" rooms have been arranged at Westminster for those not able to get a seat in the committee room.

Last week Mr Murdoch's News Corporation dropped a bid to take complete control of satellite broadcaster BSkyB.

Asean summit set to open in Bali

Foreign ministers and other diplomats from the Association of South East Asian Nations (Asean) are set to begin regional talks in Bali.

Talks are expected to focus on the territorial dispute between China and several other members over the South China Sea.

The 10 member states have consistently said that their approach to solving regional problems is a peaceful one.

But the recent dispute over the waters has heightened tensions in the region.

And it has raised concerns about what continued acrimony between some Asean member states and China - which has become an increasingly important trading partner for the group - means for the region as a whole.
Embarrassment?

The South China Sea is home to some of the busiest shipping lanes in the world, as well as vast reserves of oil and gas.

A number of countries have overlapping claims in the area - Brunei, China, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam.

Asean says it has to find a way to manage these differences - so as to restore harmony in a region that has become ever more so dependent on China.

Meanwhile, the group is also expected to discuss the recent border dispute between Thailand and neighbouring Cambodia, as well as to decide on whether Burma should get the Asean chair in 2014.

Human rights groups say that giving Burma the Asean chair would be an embarrassment for the region.

How Asean manages these challenges will be seen as an indication of just how effective and relevant the regional grouping is.

Japan bans Fukushima beef shipments

The Japanese government has banned all shipments of cattle from the Fukushima prefecture on concerns about contaminated beef.

More than 500 cows are thought to have eaten radiation-tainted hay and already been shipped to other parts of Japan.

There are also concerns that beef from other surrounding prefectures may be contaminated.

This is the latest health scare linked to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant damaged by March's earthquake.

"We instructed the governor [of Fukushima] to halt shipments of all cattle in Fukushima to meat-packing factories," said chief government spokesman Yukio Edano.
Wider problem

The initial discovery of contaminated beef was traced back to farms near the Fukushima power plant, but more recent discoveries are from farms as far as 100km (70 miles) away.

However, farm ministry officials have said that consuming the beef a few times would not pose a health risk, despite radiation levels several times the national limit.

Shipments of certain vegetables from areas near the plant had already been halted due to high radiation levels.

More than four months on from the earthquake, radioactive material continues to escape from the facility.

Syrian troops 'kill civilians in Homs assault'

Syrian security forces have shot dead several civilians in the city of Homs, eyewitnesses and activists say.

Intense gunfire was reported overnight in Homs, with one resident telling Reuters there were "troops and armoured vehicles in every neighbourhood".

The latest violence is part of a crackdown on the four-month-old anti-government uprising in the country.

International journalists have been denied access to Syria, making it difficult to verify reports.

Residents said at least three people had been killed in attacks on districts across Homs on Tuesday. Activists said at least 10 had died in the fighting overnight.

"The irregular forces with [the troops] are death squads. They have been firing indiscriminately since dawn with rifles and machine guns. No-one can leave their homes," an unnamed resident told Reuters by phone.

It follows a wave of violence in Homs at the weekend.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 30 people were killed in sectarian fighting on Saturday and Sunday, following the discovery of the mutilated bodies of three regime supporters.

The supporters were reported to be Alawites - the minority ruling sect of President Bashar al-Assad.

However, the Syrian National Human Rights Organisation said that only seven people were killed in the weekend attacks, which it said were carried out by security forces.

Human rights groups say that about 1,400 civilians and 350 security forces personnel have died in the four months of protest.

The government blames the unrest on "armed criminal gangs" backed by a foreign conspiracy.

Footage appearing to show the execution-style killing of 16 policemen in the restive north-west of Pakistan has been released by the Taliban.

The video shows policemen lined up on a hillside with their hands tied behind their backs in front of gunmen who berate them and then open fire on them.

The incident is said to date from June when militants crossed the Afghan border and captured police.

Pakistan's army spokesman told the BBC the video appears to be authentic.

A note released alongside the video said that the policemen were captured during a cross-border raid from Afghanistan in June in Pakistan's volatile Dir district.

The bodies were discovered by locals once the militants had left. The BBC received mobile phone footage from a policeman in Dir showing local residents discovering the corpses.
Disturbing footage

The area is regularly targeted by insurgents and hundreds of militants were reported to have descended upon the town of Shalato in a remote corner of Dir close to the border with Afghanistan's Kunar province. At least 25 Pakistani troops were also killed during the prolonged clash. The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for that attack.

The footage released by the Taliban is disturbing. The policemen are lined up on the left with only a few moments to live.

On the right, a local Pakistani Taliban commander accuses them of being the enemies of Islam and says God wants him to punish them.

Then his gunmen open fire and the men are seen collapsing as they are sprayed with bullets. Later, a militant is seen firing shots into the soldiers' heads to ensure they were all dead.

The BBC's Aleem Maqbool in Islamabad says incidents like this make Pakistan bristle with anger when it is told that it is not doing enough to fight militants. But, our correspondent adds, Pakistan's army also stands accused of abuses.

Human rights groups say there is considerable evidence that Pakistan's army has also conducted summary executions of suspected Taliban militants - an accusation the army denies.

"They are merciless terrorists and this is the threat which we are up against. We have suffered the most at the hands of al-Qaeda and its affiliates... At the same time Pakistan has delivered the most against [them]," Maj Gen Athar Abbas, Pakistan's army spokesman, told the BBC.

The army believes the attack was carried out by Pakistani Taliban fighters from Swat, who fled across the border into Afghanistan during the army's offensive there two years ago.

They have since regrouped and have been coming across the border to carry out attacks on isolated checkpoints like the one in Dir manned by the men who were killed.

Correspondents say that securing the long and porous border dividing Pakistan and Afghanistan has been a major challenge for the two countries.

Many of the militant groups that operate on either side of the border are closely linked.

Michele Bachmann’s husband says clinic doesn’t force gays to turn straight

Marcus Bachmann has said that his counselling clinics do not have a “special interest” in trying to turn gay people straight.

The husband of Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann came under fire this month after his Christian counselling clinic was recorded trying to ‘cure’ a gay man.

Speaking to the Star-Tribune, Mr Bachmann did not deny that he and other staff at Bachmann & Associates had tried to cure gay people but said it was always the client’s choice.

“Will I address it? Certainly we’ll talk about it,” he said. “Is it a remedy form that I typically would use? … It is at the client’s discretion.”

“We don’t have an agenda or a philosophy of trying to change someone,” he added.

On the footage filmed of a counsellor by gay rights group Truth Wins Out, he said: “This individual came to us under a false pretence. The truth of the matter is he specifically asked for help.”

Mr Bachmann has been widely reported to have said in a radio interview in 2010 that gays are “barbarians” who need to be “disciplined”.

He was speaking on the Christian radio talkshow Point of View. While station no longer has the original audio, recordings can be found online of the remarks.

However, Mr Bachmann claims that the recording is doctored and that he was talking about children.

“I was talking in reference to children. Nothing, nothing to do with homosexuality. That’s not my mindset. That’s not my belief system. That’s not the way I would talk,” he said.

Mrs Bachmann has been criticised for attacking state spending while her family’s Minnesota clinic is a recipient of state and federal payments.

Chris Brown may sue magazine over anti-gay claims

Chris Brown is reportedly considering whether to sue over a magazine article which claimed he hurled homophobic abuse during a casual basketball game.

Last week, US magazine Star reported that the singer was at an LA gym recently when he lost his temper and called other players “faggots”.

The report followed other claims that the singer had used anti-gay slurs.

Brown’s management said in a statement: “A totally fictitious article ran in the current Star Magazine (issue date July 25th, 2011) accusing our client Chris Brown of doing something that he did not do.

“Chris was filming a video with AceHood on June 29th and never left the set. He spent the entire day with dozens of members of the production team filming the video for Body To Body at 1870 Sunset Plaza in West Hollywood.

“Chris Brown’s management is considering taking appropriate legal action against the paper. Unfortunately this bogus account is being picked up by additional media outlets. We stand behind our client and want to set the record straight that this did not happen.”

Κανένας από το πλήρωμα του διαστημικού λεωφορείου ATLANTIS της NASA -νωρίς το πρωί για αυτούς και για μας αργά το βράδυ- ενώ...
πραγματοποιούσε το ολονύκτιο πρόγραμμα, δεν περίμενε να ακούσει αυτό το περίεργο μήνυμα αφύπνισης κατά την διάρκεια της πτήσης του STS-135!

Παίζοντας ένα από τα καινούρια τραγούδια της Beyonce, το “Run The World (Girls)“, ως background ακολούθησε ένα ηχογραφημένο έκπληξη μήνυμα αφύπνισης από την Beyonce προς τους αστροναύτες του πληρώματος, η οποία ξεχώρισε την Sandra Magnus την μοναδική γυναίκα μέσα σε όλη την αποστολή!

Αυτά ήταν τα λόγια της γνωστής τραγουδίστριας στο μήνυμα:
“Καλημέρα ATLANTIS! Είμαι η Beοyoncé! Sandy, Chris, Doug και Rex έχετε εμπνεύσει όλους εμάς να τολμάμε να ζήσουμε τα όνειρά μας και να ξέρετε ότι είμαστε αρκετά έξυπνοι και ισχυροί για να τα επιτύχουμε! Αυτό το τραγούδι είναι ειδικά αφιερωμένο στο “κορίτσι μου” την Sandy, και σε όλες τις γυναίκες που έχουν πάει στο διάστημα καθώς, σε όλα τα κορίτσια-εξερευνήτριες που θα υπάρξουν στο μέλλον.“

Η Sandy ευχαρίστησε αμέσως την Beοyonce λέγοντας:
“Καλημέρα Houston! Θα ήθελα να ευχαριστήσω θερμά την Beyonce για τον χρόνο που αφιέρωσε για την εγγραφή του μηνύματος! Είμαστε έτοιμοι για άλλη μίa μέρα εδώ στο ATLANTIS!” Το ίδιο βέβαια είχε κάνει και ο Μπάρακ Ομπάμα λίγες μέρες νωρίτερα! Λέτε να ζήλεψε τον πρόεδρο των Η.Π.Α; Είναι γνωστό βέβαια πως στην Beyonce αρέσουν οι αντιγραφές!

Θεσσαλονίκη: Αποκλεισμός δρόμου από εργαζόμενους του νοσοκομείου «Γ.Γεννηματάς»

Σε αποκλεισμό της οδού Εθνικής Αμύνης, στο ύψος του νοσοκομείου «Γ.Γεννηματάς» προχώρησαν οι εργαζόμενοι του ιδρύματος, από τις 10.00 ως τις 11 π.μ., διαμαρτυρόμενοι για τις... ρυθμίσεις του νέου υγειονομικού χάρτη του υπουργείου Υγείας και τον σχεδιασμό του για τη λειτουργία του νοσοκομείου.

«Εχουμε επτά πλήρως εξοπλισμένες χειρουργικές αίθουσες, 4000 χειρουργεία το χρόνο, έντεκα τη μέρα, κατά μέσο όρο. Μας αφήνει μια παιδοχειρουργική και μια ΩΡΛ και μεταφέρει μεταξύ άλλων και την καρδιοχειρουργική στον «Άγιο Δημήτριο», ενώ εμείς διαθέτουμε υπερσύγχρονο αξονικό τομογράφο» δήλωσε στο ΑΠΕ-ΜΠΕ ο πρόεδρος του εργασιακού σωματείου και πρόεδρος της ΕΔΟΘ Πέτρος Κετικίδης.

Οι εργαζόμενοι στα δημόσια νοσοκομεία της Θεσσαλονίκης θα πραγματοποιήσουν αύριο στις εννιά το πρωί συγκέντρωση διαμαρτυρίας έξω από τα γραφεία της 3ης και 4ης Υγειονομικής Περιφέρειας στην πλατεία Αριστοτέλους.

Κινητοποίηση ιδιοκτητών ταξί στο αεροδρόμιο «Μακεδονία»

Πορεία από τη διασταύρωση του αεροδρομίου «Μακεδονία» (οδός Προφήτη Ηλία), όπου παρέταξαν τα ταξί τους χωρίς να εμποδίζουν την κυκλοφορία... στο συγκεκριμένο σημείο, έκαναν πεζοί ως τον επιβατικό σταθμό του αεροδρομίου, ιδιοκτήτες ταξί, που διαμαρτύρονται για τον τρόπο απελευθέρωσης του επαγγέλματός τους.

Οι ιδιοκτήτες εισήλθαν στον επιβατικό σταθμό και παραμένουν συγκεντρωμένοι στο χώρο των αφίξεων, από τον οποίο θα αναχωρήσουν σε λίγο και πάλι πεζοί για τα αυτοκίνητά τους.

Κατά τη διάρκεια της πορείας τους δυσκολεύτηκε η κίνηση των αυτοκινήτων από και προς το αεροδρόμιο και το ίδιο αναμένεται να συμβεί και κατά την αποχώρηση τους.

«Όσο κάναμε πορεία προς το αεροδρόμιο, τα αυτοκίνητα, απλώς ακολουθούσαν από πίσω μας. Δεν ήταν στόχος να επιβαρύνουμε τον κόσμο, αλλά να προβάλουμε τα αιτήματά μας» δήλωσε ο πρόεδρος του σωματείου ιδιοκτητών ταξί Θεσσαλονίκης «ο Ερμής» Κώστας Γιαννακάκης.

Από χθες το πρωί παραμένουν συγκεντρωμένοι στο ύψος της Nέας Τρίγλιας, με τα ταξί τους, ιδιοκτήτες ταξί της Χαλκιδικής, χωρίς να κλείνουν δρόμους.
